@Me3: good luck!! I've also heard that Pilates helps, as well. I haven't gone that route yet, but I'm going to soon.

Thanks to everyone for their replies! I feel resolved to see my PT and maybe a chiro too as soon as I can. And thank you especially to @Lovelyplum for the tip about a herniated disc. I haven't had any trauma, but both of my births were "traumatic" so that very well could be it too. Here's to finding answers and relief for everyone!

@Cole: specialist. Way back when, I was diagnosed by my OB, then treated by my PCP. In October, I went for a run and was unable to walk for 4 days. Six weeks later, I had a deep tissue massage, and a similar thing happened. I went straight to my orthopedic, who x-rayed my hips and promptly sent me for a spinal MRI. When those results came back, he immediately referred me to a spine specialist/neurosurgeon.

Let us know how it goes!!

@Cole: I just saw your post. Yes,go get a second opinion. I waited almost 2 years to do that, and he had it (correctly) diagnosed within 2 weeks. The chiro has helped, but I have underlying structural issues that need to be addressed by a neurosurgeon. I have to wait 6-9 months after my surgery to get pregnant again, but my doctor strongly advised me not to wait until after another baby to get the surgery. He said a second pregnancy would be much harder on me than my (already really difficult) first one.

I hope you can get relief soon.

You haven't had any trauma, have you?

I ask because I was misdiagnosed with a dislocated hip/symptoms similar to SPD after a fall while I was pregnant. I had a lot of the same symptoms and was convinced that's what it was. I finally went to a specialist, and it turns out I herniated a disc. That's why it wasn't getting better with treatment!!

So: it's probably not that, but if it doesn't get better with treatment, it might be worth going to an orthopedic for evaluation. He caught mine right away.

Feel better. It's miserable, I know!

Just a chiro and my own weight lifting regimen. A good massage therapist will be a great help, too, to assist your muscles find their appropriate places after pregnancy & delivery.

@Cole I'm so sorry to hear you're still suffering! I haven't been to the chiropractor yet but it sounds like that's been the most helpful for you. I completely understand being scared to get pregnant again. I feel the same way. I don't want to do anything to aggravate my issues until I have all the facts. I have had a nagging feeling for quite a while that whatever was going on, I needed to be very careful with my body and not push it (with strenuous exercise or another pregnancy) because it might have disastrous effects. I'm going to call the PT and make an appointment soon. Maybe she can also refer me to a chiropractor who's familiar with the issue. I hope you get answers and relief soon!

I am 16 months post partum and still dealing with it. It seemed like it was gone but it was just bothering me again a few days ago. I tried PT but I wasn't great about doing the exercises at home. The chiropractor has helped a lot. I am about ready to look into getting x-rays and stuff though, I am worried at this point that it was misdiagnosed and I am terrified to get pregnant again when it's not resolved.

@KGBEE thank you for responding! If you don't mind responding again, did you visit a physical therapist at all or just a chiropractor?

My SPD took months to resolve after my second child. Chiropractic adjustment and strength training in my core, hips, & legs helped so much!

Has anyone had experience with postpartum SPD? I've had significant back/walking/rolling over pain for a year now since my son's birth and found SPD googling my symptoms. I had a difficult delivery of a rather large baby, and seem to fit the profile for the disorder. I've actually been to see a pelvic floor PT once to help with stress urinary incontinence and want to go back to talk about SPD now. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this postpartum? It seems rare but sounds exactly like what I've been dealing with.

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with experience!
