I love Stroller Strides, which is in-person with your baby and a great way to get out of the house and make mom friends. You could email your local Stroller Strides to check on ability to incorporate modifications as needed for diastisis recti - they're normally great about modifications.

@avivoca: oh crap, thank you for letting me know! I always thought it was a fairly gentle pose that you could modify on your knees but just saw the follow up comment about the DR. I'll edit the post above to not steer anyone in the wrong direction!

Post Partum Yoga! There could be Mommy and Me classes near you or it can be your excuse to get out of the house for a little time to quiet your mind and focus on yourself.

Also be patient with yourself! You grew a human!

@babybean404: I do think it was worth it. My DR went from huge to about 4 fingers- I went to PT to get it down to 2.5... but her stuff is gentle and makes sense, and she talks a lot about post partum nutrition and alignment too.

I like the bikini body mommy challenge. You can find it on YouTube and she mixes it up. It helped me get started in a regimen before I could make it back to the gym. Of course, that's for after you get you d.r. sorted out. Be easy on yourself, and work with what you can. :)

@babybean404: I would bring it along. It couldn't hurt and there may be way to incorporate both once he or she assesses you and your particular needs. Or they might recommend you just stick to momma strong and come back only if you aren't seeing results! I have heard good things about it as well.

@Littlebit7: thanks for replying. That sounds pretty reasonable. If I plan on doing mommastrong do you think I should bring info on that to the appointment? Or just plan on doing only PT for 3 weeks and not any other program?

@babybean404: I'm a PT. If you came to me with diastisis recti and had your crazy copay (which is more common than you think, yikes), I would send you home with a really comprehensive home exercise program (and teach you how to do all of them) and have you come back in three weeks after being diligent with the exercises. That is totally normal and reasonable. It might help to find a small therapist owned practice rather than a bigger rehab chain. Sometimes you can ask about a cash rate; we don't even bill insurance and just accept, say $40 or whatever per visit.

@babybean404: I had Diastasis recti too (with both pregnancies) and tried a bunch of stuff, but nothing helped until I did the Mommastrong Di-Recti program. I highly encourage you to check it out. Its only $2 a month and completely healed my diastasis recti.

I did mommastrong for a couple weeks, right when I started to get back into working out (also around 6 weeks). I did about half of the core camp program and by then I thought I could handle my normal workouts so I went back to those (barre3 and bar method). From weeks 8 until 13 or so (basically until I went back to work), I did barre3 mostly since they have short workouts. I tended to work out while LO2 was napping or on his play mat, so I needed very quick ones and barre3 online has 10 min workouts that I could do alone or string together if I wanted.

Of course now I am back at work and not working out again... :/

@babybean404: I can't recommend PT for diastasis recti enough! In four weeks, I went from having a three-finger gap to a one-finger gap. Check your insurance, you may not need a referral. I tried doing it on my own but I'm someone that needs to pay for accountability for things like that, so I knew that I would do the exercises if I was paying $25/visit to fix it.

@LulaBee: interesting! Do you think the program was worth it? I see she offers a 30 day refund so I wonder if I should try it. I have mild diastasis recti. My midwife said I was "on the border" of her referring me to PT.

Thanks for the reminders to take it slow. I am ready to fit into my clothes again but I know i need to be careful!

@LulaBee is right with make sure your core/pelvic floor are up to it.

Also take it slow!

About a yr pp I started running again using couch to 5k, and ended up with a stress fracture in my foot, I think because my body just wasn't up for it.

Core strengthening classes, post partum yoga, and walking are all good ways to start. Swimming is low impact too.

Whatever you end up doing, you should make sure your core/pelvic floor are ready for it. 6 weeks is a little early for hardcore exercises like running, jumping, HIIT, etc.

When I was 6 weeks post partum I did a core restore program from Jessie Mundell.

Also, walking is so good for you and low impact- and you can take your baby! Fitness Blender is a fantastic resource that has programs you can buy but also hundreds of free videos that you can use, and you can search by level/type/length.

My LO is six weeks and I'm ready to get back in shape! Though "back" is not quite the word since I haven't been exercising regularly since we started trying for LO1 in 2013

Can anyone recommend a plan to follow besides Jillian Micheals 30 day shred? Love her but want something different. I really want someone to say, this week, run/walk 3 miles on day 1, do this YouTube workout day 2, rest day 3, etc.

Does that exist anywhere???
