@googly-eyes: could well be a nervous thing too -- my LO has plenty of nervous tics!

hopefully you figure out what's going on sooner rather than later!! have you read the no-cry sleep solution? while I didn't necessarily agree with everything in the book, I did take some good points away from it! might be worth a try, if you haven't already :)

@Penny Lane: See, I was wondering if it was like a nervous thing that she does or if her mouth really hurts or what...we give tylenol when it happens because she seems to be upset but I don't know if the upset is pain or just pissed that I put her in her crib! Ah, I never thought this would still be an issue at 1 year old, especially given how good she was at 4-7 months old. How naive! :/

I guess it could? they open their mouths pretty far when they're crying, and I see how that could make already tight and sore gums more painful?

i've never been one for sleep training either, so totally get where you're coming from :)

...but I have to ask: does crying make a baby's gums hurt more?

It seems like at bedtime if I ever let her cry at all, she suddenly starts chewing like crazy. This has been happening for months. Even just a few seconds and she starts chewing.

It would take me another post to explain the multitude of sleep problems we are having but suffice to say there are bad habits abound as the cause and result of bad sleep. I never wanted to sleep train. I don't even really like the idea. But I don't foresee this getting better on its own for a long time. However, if sleep training means pain for dd, it's a no-go.

Edit to add...I don't judge anyone who sleep trained or is planning on it. I get why people do it. But I just didn't think it was for us. After all we live in an apartment.
