I store my parts in a wetbag (the same type for cloth diapers just a small one) in the fridge between pumping sessions at work without rinsing (I usually just kind of wipe the extra milk off the flanges). Then I have a second set that I use at home when I pump at night. Then we wash both sets at night and air dry or sometimes I store the ones from night in the fridge and wash the next day. I have only replaced the membranes once with my PISA in about 10 months of using my pump.

OK zombie here but:

is it ok to store the used parts in the cooler part that comes with the Medela pump? I wipe them down with a wipe and pump maybe three times per day. Then wash at night. Everyone here says they store the used parts in the fridge! I hope I haven't done this wrong!

I keep mine in the fridge in a Ziploc and wash every three pumps. I wash in the dishwasher, then once or twice a week I sanitize them in a Medela steam bag.

I have two sets, so one set can completely dry after hand washing or washing in the dishwasher. I use one set per day, keeping the parts in the fridge when not in use.

I wash mine once a day (at night and then let air dry) and store in the fridge between pumping. And I've been using my Medela PISA for about two months now (I think) and have yet to replace the white membrane part.

I store mine in the fridge so I don't have to wash them every time then, I usually wash them at night. Your pump should have come with a second set of those white membrane part. My lc pointed out to me that they come off because she had a client that didn't know they did and never washed them and then mold started growing there and smelling badly.

I EP and store my parts in a ziplock bag in the fridge during the day - then I run them through the dishwasher each night. I give them a quick rinse before I put the parts in the fridge.

No way I would have the patience to clean between each pump...I thank hellobee for sharing the fridge tip with me and allowing me to EP!

I wipe mine off with a paper towel & store them in the fridge. The refrigeration slows the growth of bacteria. I probably wash them 2-3 times a day, or every 3 uses or so.

When I was pumping I would wash my parts once a day. I would either store the parts in the fridge during the day or use a quick clean wipe (I did that in the beginning). I had two sets of pump parts but I have the Freestyle and never had to replace the membranes and I pumped for a little over a year.

For your medela and the Freestyle, that little yellow membrane should be good for a quite a while. I think you hear about people replacing the white membranes of the PISA.

I rinsed and then would put in the fridge. I preferred just an open bowl at home. Again, I would wash about every three pumps.

If you're going to pump long term, I would think about getting a second set of parts.

If I started getting less suction, I'd replace the little white membranes. I think I would get about 12 weeks before they wore out. You can get a pack of them on amazon for super cheap, not medela but works fine.

I dry with clean paper towels after washing if I don't have a place/time to air dry. People refrigerate them so the bits of milk that aren't washed off don't go "bad", so you don't have to wash it inbetween sessions. I never got into that, I just rinse with hot water, dry, and wash them out 2x a day.

I don't wash them and put them in a large ziplock in the fridge... I wash them about every 3 pumps, but I'm still pumping very often. :)

Those of you who pump often/exclusively- how often do you clean your pump parts? I wash them after every session, but they're almost never 100% dry by the time I go to pump again, and I know it's less hygienic to hand dry than to air dry. I think I read something about storing parts in the fridge at work- so do those of you who pump at work store the pump parts in te fridge in a Tupperware and get less cleanings out of it? I couldn't figure why else you need to store pump items in the fridge. This is probably just wishful thinking- I'm just going crazy with all the cleaning/drying and disassembling/reassembling.

Also- the little flap rubber valve/membrane thing- hoe often do you have to replace it?

ALSO- Mr Bee if you are reading this, in the guides, the pumping supplies one incorrectly links to a different guide about breastfeeding. I couldn't comment on the guide page so I didn't know how to let you know.
