Things got better for a bit and now are terrible again. Accidents at school, at night, etc. We are moving this Friday and are living in a pretty much empty house. It seems related to stress for sure.

We also don't have a washer/dryer anymore (it is on the moving truck), so we had to make a trip to the laundromat yesterday to wash some of her soiled clothing. As we left, she had another accident.

I'm really hoping this all clears up once we move next weekend and get settled in the new place. If not, I will probably seek out some kind of specialist.

@DillonLion: Hey, I am a little bit of an expert in bedwetting :silly: Several things we read + pediatrician + specialists said don't wake them up for potty, it is actually anti-productive. I'd say your next step should be asking the pediatrician for a reference to a pediatric urology clinic for bedwetting. There is indeed such a thing (at least in my area, haha)!

Looking at our clinic's website this is what they specialized for:

-Daytime wetting
-Urinary tract infection
-Urinary frequency or infrequency
-Nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting)
-Constipation (soiling)
-Posturing to avoid voiding (squatting or dancing)
-Urinary urgency

Good luck!!

I took her to the pedi last night. They ruled out a UTI, diabetes, constipation, etc. They said it was likely behavioral but would send the urine sample off for further testing for anything bacterial.

I woke her up 3x overnight to use the restroom and she still woke up this morning with everything smelling like pee :crying:

How long has it been going on? If it’s a fairly recent thing, I’d get her checked for a UTI. Sudden, frequent accidents were the only symptom for both of my girls when they had them.

@DillonLion: Any chance she's on antihistamines? DD is 4 and when she has a seasonal allergy flair, sometimes Zyrtec causes her to have a significant number of accidents.

@DillonLion: my son had functional constipation. His BMs looked normal but he wasn't moving them in a timely manner. We found this out after a visit to the pediatrician. She felt his stomach and told us he was backed up. We started on Miralax and used that for about 1.5 years. We had to get into the routine of sitting on the potty 20 minutes after eating dinner to try and have a BM. 90% of the time it worked. Once we got everything cleared out the potty accidents stopped.

@DillonLion: probably not it then (though if they seem very loose, that can be an indicator also). I always mention it though because it was such a huge fix for my oldest!

What’s going on with her #2? If she gets backed up it can affect the ability to feel the need to go #1. Sometimes backups aren’t obvious, you might have to pay close attention, sometimes they can still go a bit but aren’t getting it all out. Stress/anxiety can definitely be a factor. You could even try just offering some of the chewy fiber squares and see what happens. Miralax is also an option, it works better than the gummies if you need regular help.

Just throwing it out there as an idea since it’s a sudden problem sounds like!

I have no specific advice, just thought I'd share our experience. We had night time accidents until almost 7. It was tamed when DS turned 6 but toward 6.5 it came back again with full force, accidents every night. It got so bad that it went into daytime, he'd come home smelling like pee from school, and his pants were wet. There were a few times he peed his pants when the bathroom was right there... and he was potty trained before 2 and seldom a daytime accident! When I ask if he had an accident he would insist he didn't, even though his pants were wet and he smelled like pee. I posted here for thoughts, and was given the idea of seeing a pediatric urologist, which I haven't even thought about. I emailed our pediatrician for a reference and was refered to a pediatric urology clinic instead so we saw a nurse. We got some good suggestions. We also involved our class teacher, as the nurse wrote a note to the teacher stating to let DS use the bathroom anytime, and remind him of bathroom breaks and excuse him and allow him to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Something clicked with DS about the visit and bringing the issue to light with a professional and his teacher. It took just one time, and the whole ship turned around. No more accidents day and night (well the night we did a bit more work but we eventually got there). It was magical. We made a follow up appointment to consider the option of prescribed medication and we didn't even have to go to that one. So yes, I think it is psychological, and it helps to have your DD meet with a professional so she realize the issue is serious and real. It is hard and I know what you are saying about sick of the smell of pee and the constant laundry! Hang in there and good luck to you!

Help me, please! My 6.5 year old has started having a ton of accidents again, #1 only (at night, at school, etc.)

We are about to make a cross country move, and DH moved 3 months ago, so he's been gone. I assume it has something to do with dealing with that. When I ask her about it, she says she forgets to go or doesn't realize she needs to.

I've considered making an appt with her pediatrician. Do you think that is warranted? I'm sick of the laundry and my whole house smelling like pee, plus I want to make sure she's okay emotionally and physically, of course.
