@daniellemybelle: any time you address a problem it just goes away. They just like to make us liars :silly: A year and a half ago I brought Wes to be evaluated for a speech delay and within 24 hours of the evaluation (where they said he was on the back end of normal but not technically behind) he said EIGHTEEN new words and pronounced a G sound for the first time. He just wanted to make me look like a crazy mom, lol.

@littlejoy: @avivoca: @Freckles: @Smurfette: Thanks for the recommendations. We do have a "Piddle Pad" but even taking that out and washing it daily is annoying - though better than the whole cover. I might add a cloth diaper.

@Navy_Mommy: @BabyBoecksMom: Great points about the movement of the car and pressure of the car seat! That makes me feel a little better that she's at least trying to hold it but just can't.

@BabyBoecksMom: Any kind of rewards/bribes have kind of backfired with potty training. I don't want to get to a point where she is whining for and demanding an M&M before we even get in the car!

@JoJoGirl: I know it takes a while to develop the muscles! It's just interesting to me that she can hold it anywhere else pretty much.

We made it home from the gym dry! And she stayed dry in the daycare there too for 45 minutes. (This was our first attempt.) Usually I just have to post about a problem on HB and it goes away ;)

We use chux pads in the car (cut so they are small). This might be technically frowned upon (because it's something between the kiddo and the seat), but our LO really only pees in the car -- aside from the toilet.

I'd get Chux pads to put in the car seat. I think CSFTL recommends them as well. It will at least save you from having to wash the car seat cover all the time.

We would put a cloth diaper outside W's clothes but beneath the buckle of the seat to help cleanup (okay-ed by our local CPST). A big thing is sensations change in a moving car, know what I mean? I think it's completely normal.

That happened to my LO last week - 5 minute car ride. And we did boot camp 2 months ago! I think honestly their bladder muscles are just not developed yet that they will sometimes have accidents.

Can you try to bribe her? Like, tell her she gets one M&M if she doesn't go in her carseat?

Do you think it might be the pressure from the buckle making it hard to hold it?

I agree with pp. I didn't attempt outings without pull-ups until a few weeks later. She may not be completely emptying her bladder and then have the ability the hold it in. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I'd look into car seat protectors for now, or those disposable pads.

I think a week into potty training this is normal. She is till learning to empty it all at once and the ability to hold it. She isn't even 2 yet right?

They make potty pads for the car seat if you are worried about having to clean it so much.

LO has been potty trained for over a week now and she's doing great. We don't really have accidents (except in the situation I describe below) unless we just don't quite make it in time but she is good about telling me she has to go and holding it as well as she can. We have even gotten past our poop holding issue somewhat. She has pooped in the potty a few times but she still usually goes in her pull-up at nap time, too.

The main problem we are having at this point is accidents in the car seat. I will wait to go somewhere until she has her first big morning pee usually an hour or two after waking up. She will stay dry in the car and then we will pee upon arriving and upon leaving every place we go. But without fail on the drive home, she will pee in her car seat - even if she peed 10 minutes earlier.

She always tells me, "Pee pee in the potty, no pee pee in my car seat," and the first few times I panicked and tried to pull over but she had already gone. So, I guess this is bad but now I don't really try to stop. We are usually on the highway or a main road so I just say, "You're right - pee pee goes in the potty. Try to hold it in until we get home and you can pee pee in the potty." But I know that she's already peed.

I really hope the answer to this is not that we need to stay home or that we can't go out for longer than like 30 minutes because that is just not realistic. She needs to get out of the house as much as I do. We have to drive 10-15 minutes to most things and some things like the children's museum today are longer drives than that, but I think it is worth it.

We did OCPT so I need to re-read what she says about accidents. I feel like she would say that this is "behavior" since LO has always just peed, but I don't want to do anything to give her a complex.

Advice?
