Have you tried to limit liquids after a certain time (like an hour before bed) but to make sure he drinks throughout the day but not too much all at once, especially before you restrict his liquid intake? That has helped my 5.5 y.o. to sometimes wait until morning to go. But at 5.5 he still wakes me to go in the MOTN b/c he's afraid. That's all. He just wants me to tell him "go pee" after he tells me he has to pee and then I just stand or more like lean on the wall outside of the bathroom waiting for him to go pee... I did notice one thing though... he washes his hand MUCH more thoroughly in the MOTN than during the day time!

@Mamaof2: Sometimes I feel like we have the same kid. LOL! I always tell my oldest the same thing but during the daytime when he tells me he has to go pee. Sometimes at night too... Or in the morning I'll ask him to not wake me and to go by himself. Not working. I guess I should say, "please???" :P

@regberadaisy: Yes, and sometimes 5 minutes after. It might be due to being afraid of the dark (he has 2 nightlights).... or actually needing to go potty. Some days he will have time periods where he asks to pee every 45 minutes, other days he will go 4 hours at a time and refuse to go when asked.

@pastemoo: that's brutal! I assume he is going potty right before lights out? We leave potty time for the very last thing of our routine.

I would limit liquids before bed (maybe nothing 30 minutes before bedtime). Is he in a toddler bed? If so, you could put the little potty in his room at night so he can get up and go by himself.

@babynumber1: He doesn't have accidents really. It's more that he wakes me up to go.
I know that's the best advice, but I'm afraid to limit fluids because I know he is otherwise prone to constipation. (Or maybe it's just a case of devil you know vs devil you don't?)

Have you tried limiting his liquids before bedtime to help with this. LO potty trained at 20 months (she's 28 months now), and we just had our first accident at night last night. She had too much water before bedtime after our walk. It really does make a huge difference for her.

I need help! My son is night potty training himself. I can't discourage him but I am exhausted. He's not quite 2 1/2. He wakes up several times at night to go potty (and goes! And refuses to go in his diaper).

He goes on the plastic small potty at night. There must be a way to help him start the process on his own... and eventually go potty at night without waking me up... right?
