My son was 3 y/o +1 week when he finally went with potty training. We did a sticker chart, 1 for trying, 2 for peeing, 3 for pooping. When he got 15 stickers he got a hot wheel.

We put him in underwear (Thomas the Train) and shamelessly told him Thomas didn't want peed or pooped on. I also had him help clean the floor with me and start a load of a laundry if he had an accident. I didn't get mad, just told him we had to clean it up.

I know I'm lucky with this part, but he was night and day, poop and pee potty trained within a week of starting. I think a lot of that was he was finally ready, because we tried a couple other times between 1.5-2.5 y/o.

@cake2017: hey we trained my DS right after 36 months. We did a version of the 3 day method. He was able to go from time to time but hadn’t really been motivated so I decided it was just time to nudge him out of diapers.

We started with no bottoms but he wanted underwear so we bargained that he had to go in the potty twice and then he got undies. We relied heavily on a timer to go every 10/15 minutes in the beginning to “try” and avoid accidents and set up for success. We also watched elmos potty time to reinforce the ideas of being big and listening to your body.

We did a lot of praise, stickers for pees and poops, M&M’s, and a prize box (matchbox cars were a hit) for every 3 successes. He pretty much got it in the 3 days.

Good luck! Hope that helps!

@cake2017: no but she does have a section on if you do that all at once. Dd is 25 months so we are waiting on that.

We loosely follow oh crap. For my older son, he trained in about a week but I think daycare really helped with that and he’s a big rule follower. We just started my 2 year old this weekend. He’s spent the last couple of days with no pants or underwear. Will start with pants but no underwear tomorrow. He’s had a couple of accidents but I think he’s starting to understand. My older son wasn’t night trained until about a year after we potty trained him. I just waited until he consistently woke up dry and then just stopped putting an overnight diaper on him.

@cake2017: we just started 2 weeks ago. It took only one day with no pants and we put undies on in a week (she advocates starting with pants sans undies). Within 4-5 days she was reasonably trained, though I think she was on the fast side of things. Now two weeks in she is more or less day trained; we took a 45 min drive and then a 2 hour walk, making sure she pottied before each leg (brought the potty in the car). I still have to be somewhat aware of her cues and will prompt her to go at certain times but she generally tells us if she needs to go.

@erinbaderin: @skiierchck99: @MoonMoon: Did you all use the Oh crap method? How long did it take for your child to be potty trained?

I have been allowing him to wear his underwear. He goes to the potty for the most part but only asking right when he’s having an accident. We’ve been sitting on the potty reading when I anticipate a poop but nothing today.

@cake2017: We found the Play-Doh poop demonstration to be very helpful for DS. I'm sure there's examples online but you show the process of pooping by squishing Play-Doh through your hand. You can show him that he's not getting it completely out on the potty

We read and used the oh crap method - loosely, with wiggle room for what works for us. No pants at first until they kind of get it. We did poop this way too. I’d recommend it! A few accidents mostly related to me not paying enough attention to promoting her.

Also wanted to add that for us, poop came a lot later than pee. For whatever reason, our son was ready to pee in the potty but poop was a few months later. I was shameless with jelly bean rewards!

When we potty trained my son, we went without bottoms for the first couple of days. The things I read said that for their bodies, underwear and diapers basically felt the same, whereas nothing on the bottom felt different and helped remind them to not just pee.

Hello!

Trying to use this time to potty train my LO1z. He will be 3 in a couple of months. Shows readiness and has went dry for periods of times. He uses the potty at school too.

I put him in undies on Thursday and he was motivated and excited. I expect accidents. I don’t know if he’s going pee in the undies or if it’s from after peeing in the potty and his penis is just wet? We go every 15 mins and he’s peeing but also has undies wet too????

Also how did you do poop? He usually goes in the morning and afternoon. He’s been sitting on the potty and does alittle poop in the potty but doesn’t finish and wants his undies back. We’ve had poop in the undies twice. Should we put him in the pull-up so he can just poop and then switch? I don’t know- any helpful tips is appreciated.
TIA
