@Freckles: We just gave them to him after he peed. Sometimes we would say, "If you pee or poop in the potty you'll get chocolate!" but it didn't seem to entice him too much. It took him awhile to catch on but we started too early.

She seems eager to sit on the potty so just keep trying! Does she watch you go to the washroom?

The best advice I can give is to keep it relaxed... the same thing happened to my cousin's daughter who managed to hold her pee for over 20 hr because she got a complex about using the toilet. That is pretty extreme, though. We also were very relaxed when we potty trained my DS and it did take a few days but he got there. Good luck!

I also PT in a very lazy, haphazard way - I didn't push at all - no training was involved just asking if they wanted to use the potty.

I would keep her in diapers - the risk of getting another UTI is way more important than being PT.

Both of my kids were in diapers while PTing and once the diaper stayed dry then we moved to underwear.

I would praise her for having a dry diaper. Feel the diaper and say "Oh you are dry! Lets go try to pee on the potty!"

She will get there in time I promise!

For DS we kept a clear glass jar of M&M's in the bathroom so he could see them - he wanted that m&m and would pee! For DD she liked stickers. But they only got one if they peed - nothing else.

Good luck! We also used the 3-day method at 27 months. LO had Lots of accidents the first two days but it clicked by the 3rd day for pee. Poo took a lot longer...2 months!

What symptoms did your LO have before her uti was diagnosed? :-( my LO has been holding her pee at preschool for the last two days!

@Freckles: good luck! All I know is going bottomless worked for us and if I put her in a pull up - major regression. It's weird having then run around without pants/underwear but it's really what worked for us

@Mrs. High Heels: I had to drape a long piece of toilet paper across the potty to see if she actually peed. I think our stand alone potty is still in a box somewhere - i'll have to fish for it. I read all the HB potty posts, including yours! N will actually stay on the potty for 5 minutes, and longer if she's watching a video.

@sandy: I read that same article too, which is why i've felt more pressure to potty train her! Maybe i'll try having her go bottomless tomorrow night and see how that goes.

@Freckles: we did the 3 day bottomless method at 24 months and it was a success. Days 1-2 I wanted to quit but she got it by day 3. I think you really have to commit to the process and it does say it works best for kids under 28 months bc I think after that they have better bladder control, etc. so it looks like you are right at the suggested age cut off so maybe give it a shot.

I was going to say everything @Sammyfab: already mentioned! Definitely keep them underwear-less at home because I found that even wearing regular underwear could be like a crutch for them to pee into and have accidents, but I found DD didn't like the feeling of pee dripping down her leg and onto the floor. The stand alone potty also helped us a lot bc it was right there, and she was able to see clearly the result of her efforts. When she peed into the regular potty, it was hard to even see her pee sometimes since it just mixed into the regular toilet water. Good luck! I wrote a few other tips here - http://www.hellobee.com/2013/07/11/easy-does-it-with-the-potty/ - we wanted to take it easy too and not put too much pressure on potty training.

@Sammyfab: Did you entice him with chocolate chips beforehand, or did you give him a chocolate chip after he peed?

Has it just been the one day? If so, then just keep trying.

Some things that really helped us were to have my LO be bottomless (so he could see the pee as it hit the floor :silly: ), let him read books or play with special toys while on the potty (to keep him there longer) and to not go back and forth with diapers during the day. We made sure daycare was on board so he was wearing underwear all the time (except for sleep).

Also, going pee in the potty chair REALLY helped because he could hear and see it and it helped to facilitate the association between peeing and sitting in the potty. We also clapped and cheered like crazy and offered chocolate chips and stickers as a reward.

@MamaCate: I was thinking i may have to restrict the stickers. hahaha...she looked SOOO sad when i told her the stickers were only for when she went potty. I also bought smarties, but i will have to hold on to them for now. I think my biggest worry is that she is going to keep holding it in and get another UTI. :(

I would try to keep it positive and be patient! It is going to take more than one day before it clicks for her. We did a modified potty boot camp at 27 months and it went really well. We watched a lot of Elmo potty time which was helpful and a treat b/c there is not much screen time around here.

Also, if it is like this for a few days, maybe either restrict the stickers for not actually going in the potty or get super special stickers just for that to up the ante a little, or m& m s?

LO is almost 28 months old and we've approached potty training in a very lazy, haphazard way. She was the one who asked us to buy her underwear, and a potty about 1 month ago but with traveling and moving we never got around to doing anything. A few weeks ago, i bought her pullups and a potty seat. She loved the whole routine of going to the potty, wiping, washing hands, etc. but the problem was she always asked us to go to the potty AFTER she peed in her diaper.

Then last week, we discovered she had a UTI! :crying:

I have a feeling she is able to hold in her pee. I decided today that i'll start potty training after work. I printed out a potty chart, bought stickers, put her in underwear and had her sit on the potty at 5:15pm, 6:00pm, and 7:30pm and nothing! She was content getting stickers for the other things she did (pulling down pants, siting on potty, washing hands). As i was giving her a bath she kept saying to me, "new diaper, poopy!" which i interpreted as her having to go (she looked uncomfortable) and sat her on the toilet...and again, nothing. It was only when i put on her nighttime diaper that she peed.

I don't want to pressure her to pee in the potty, but i don't want her to hold it in and risk another UTI. Any suggestions?
