We are on week 4 of potty training. For us, the only thing that worked to get her to pee on the potty was going bottomless. As soon as I decided to follow that direction, it was only two or three accidents (very minor) before she realized that she needed to pee before starting to pee. Making her sit on the potty didn't work for pee for us.

The only issue we're having is with poop. She knows when she has to go, but doesn't want to sit on the potty to poop. And it doesn't help that our daycare will give her a diaper if she asks for it....But I've decided that she will eventually start going poop on the potty on her own and I don't have the time or energy to police everyone taking care of her.

She rarely has a pee accident now, and tells on herself if she needs to poop. The only battle is getting her to actually poop... She's 31 months btw. Dunno if that helped at all, but good luck to you!

@Stardust17: It wasn't that bad! She peed herself several times but she made it to the potty quicker each time. By the end of the day she had it down!

Adding pants on day two was a challenge but she caught on to that quickly.

@Stardust17: with my first we hunkered down for two days but she totally had it down in the first day. Like on the third day we put her in a pull up for a longish car ride and she refused to pee it. My second we definitely needed at least two days wth a lot of attention on her. I think we ventured out to safe places (like childcare at the gym where they would help and not mind an accident).

First day there was a good amount of pee on the floor. With my first it took until day 2 for her to poop but then she had it. My second definitely regressed a lot on the second day and I almost gave up, then improved a lot on day 3. But day 2 was so defeating. Good luck mama.

@Foodnerd81: oh thank goodness! I mean I barely have to even change her diaper 3 times a day. I think she’s just gets so involved in what she’s doing that having to stop is going to be my challenge. She has told me 3 times today she needs to go “poopoo”...none in the potty and one was in her diaper less than 3 min after I got her off the potty. So I think she’s starting to understand the “need” to go but not putting it together that you sit on potty until she does.

She sounds ready and very similar to my daughter when we decided to potty train at 2.5.

We did the Oh Crap method and it was so easy. The first day was a little challenging but by halfway through day 2 she caught on and she's had maybe 1-2 accidents since (2.5 months ago).

We also don't take our daughter every 15 minutes. We made her "try" every 45 minutes or so when we first started potty training but after she caught on we just let her tell us when she needed to go.

@Stardust17: 1) she's adorable and 2) she really sounds ready! I think you should go for it before she gets to that unmalleable age.
We did the modified Oh Crap method. Without pants it really sped things up and my son learned really quickly. I am a big fan of it. To get her to drink more, I am not a fan of juice but my son loves it bc it's basically a dessert so maybe you can get her to drink more with watered down juice? And maybe don't force her to wait on the potty for long. a few minutes then off. Then FREAK OUT with joy when she pees. My son was so pumped to see me so excited when he finally peed and pooped. Good luck!

Oh and I didn’t take either of them every 15 minutes. Maybe when I knew they needed to go but not all day. But I also got a good amount of pee on my floor that first day.

I did a less strict version of the Oh Crap Potty Training book for both my kids. The biggest thing was the no bottom day or two- no pants, no underwear. My first got it almost immediately, my second took a few days to catch on and definitely has had more accidents since, but overall it’s been fine. It’s not for everyone (nothing is!) but I can’t imagine the long drawn out alternative (and some of my dearest friends can’t imagine my way, so no judgment!). My daughter was similar, she would sit for a second then pop off and say she didn’t have to. After a few hours with no pants it clicked. Both were about 2 years 9 months when we did it.

For us personally, my now 4 year old was physically ready for a long time, but not emotionally. So honestly we just followed her cues. We modeled, encouraged but never pushed. She ended up potty training herself at exactly 3.5 and never looked back!

My daughter will be 2.5 in January and I’m already stressed about how to potty train her. She started around 16 months with interest that quickly faded within weeks. Since then, I haven’t pushed it much but I feel like it’s crunch time.
Here’s what I know:
1. She’s not scared of the toilet
2. She can say “peepee and poopoo go in the potty, not our diaper or underwear”
3. She will often tell us if she’s wet or dirty
4. She will hide when she poops and then won’t sit until she’s changed
5. When we encourage potty use, or if she says she “wants to go”, she will sit for like 3 seconds and then say she’s done. Even with bribes, it’s almost impossible to get her to sit longer. The only thing that will keep her sitting there is if we let her watch her tablet. And then she will sit forever but very rarely does anything in the potty.
6. As mentioned above, bribes hardly work.
7. I’m not sure I want to do the “3 day method”. I’m open to a modified version if anyone has tried something less intense! She’s not a big “drinker” and doesn’t like anything other than water and milk at meal times. With that being said, she really doesn’t urinate a lot and usually has 1 BM a day. So I feel the method is going to become extremely frustrating to have her going every 15 min.
8. She attends half day preschool and they “take” her to the potty but they’ve experienced the same outcome I have. She has to be trained by early May to participate in the summer program.

Anyways, I’d appreciate and advice! Maybe she’s more ready than I realize and I need to step up my part? She’s not ready but showing signs that it will happen soon? She’s stubborn and I’m doomed??

Thanks ladies!!
Pic because it helps remind me that even though this is frustrating, she’s so sweet!
