We did Oh Crap! Potty Training, which recommended commando, could you try commando and see if it helps the rash? If so, then you can work on finding other underwear options. If it doesn't help, then you've at least ruled out the underwear!

Do they happen to have dry skin or eczema and maybe the cold weather is making it worse? My DS has eczema and his bum is quite dry, I make sure to lotion it well after baths.

Is the toilet seat wiped with anything harsh? DS1 got the same thing when we were potty training. DH realized we were wiping his potty seat with Clorox wipes. It was irritating him. Once we stopped it cleared up in 2 days.

@Mrs. Blue: is it character underwear? We had to wash hers a good 10 times...they were actually the "boy" ones that did it...

Is it character underwear? Sometimes all that screen printing means they don't breathe well. Plain cotton maybe? Or boxer briefs?

@daniellemybelle: well, the rash is on the cheeks of their bottom, so I don't think it would be wiping.

My LO was never very prone to diaper rash, at least compared to other kids, except when she had a tummy bug.

Now that she is potty trained, she gets red so easily. I don't know if it is her underwear or I am just having a hard time with wiping since she is not laying on the changing table? I also feel like it is harder to make sure she smells clean :/ So maybe it is just the wiping situation?

This is the second time we've tried potty training. Both times, my boys have gotten rashes on their bottoms that weren't there when they were in diapers. The underwear are washed in the same detergent (free & clear) that I wash all their clothes in. The first time I wandered about it being from the little potty seat, but this time it started even when they were just sitting on the regular toilet seat. It's all over their bottoms, so I feel like it has to be something with the underwear.

Any ideas? It's making them not want to sit on the potty, which is a little bit inconvenient right now...
