Has your DD ever done any baby signing? I'm wondering if you taught her the potty sign, it would count as telling them she needs to go for the teachers in her room. My son is similar to your DD - 21 months and prefers to use the potty to pee and poop (I still diaper him for my own convenience, but when I do put him in underwear he stays dry). He is verbal, but isn't a huge talker. He mostly knows food and animal words. He knows the sign for potty, though, and that's how he asks to use the potty. The sign is very easy, especially if you're already familiar with signing. There's a great video on YouTube that we watch about signing & using the potty. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you a link.

I would sit down with just the director and explain why you think lead teacher is just making excuses (good ratio, bathroom in room...) and push for LO to be moved now if you think the teachers in the next room will follow her nonverbal cues and you think she will tell an adult who isn't you that she has to go potty.

@littlejoy: haha right?? I think I might have scared her when I realized she was actually pooping in the potty because I was SO excited LOL. I let her get a piece of candy and she was like "really? why?" haha - complete opposite of DD1, who would sit on the potty, not do anything, and then ask for candy.

@BabyBoecksMom: Ugh! I'm sorry. I'm sure it's frustrating to feel like the care providers aren't on your side. I hope she gets moved soon.

Until then ... Go her!! How great is it that she's initiating this?!

@littlejoy: I did talk to the director and the lead teacher about it. The lead teacher is very dismissive and condescending IMO and she just kept saying "well, we have so many kids in here that we can't keep going to the bathroom for one child"... they have 12 kids and 3 teachers, and the bathroom is IN their room.

Like you said, I know it's not normal for a 22 mo to potty train.. it's actually blowing my mind... but I'm hoping they'll just move her to the next room (I like those teachers MUCH better)

That's really frustrating. We were in the other boat ... her school wanted to start potty training at 15 months, and it meant we really had to pick it up at home.

I know that schools don't always have the resources for potty training so many kids?

I would ask for a meeting ... tell them your situation, and ask why they can't accommodate her in the old room and/or won't potty train. Sometimes I think schools get caught up in "rules" that they lose a bit of common sense. It's rare that a 22 month old is PTing, which I know you get, but they might need a little nudge to realize that she needs to be trained at school too.

DD2 is 22 months and has decided to potty train herself, including pooping on the potty ( :-O ). She doesn't talk much yet, but she will come get me and pull on her diaper when we're at home to let me know she needs to go.

The rooms she's in at daycare has told me several times that they do NOT potty train in that room, and she can't move up to the next room until June. They said they only do diaper changes every 2 hours, and that they can sit her on the toilet during that time, but that's the most they will do unless she actually tells them she has to go potty (she's not verbal, so that won't happen). I'm a little frustrated because I don't want her to regress, but I'm not sure what else to do.
