@Mrs. Carrot: oh yes, we've had DD tell us she had an accident at school and it turned out she accidentally spilled her mill so she had to get her clothes changed.

Thanks, everyone, I appreciate the reassurance. Turned out yesterday's "accident" wasn't even an accident - she got wet playing with their water table! We'll keep on trucking.

@Charm54: this has been more or less our experience with our DD, who was potty trained 2 months ago. The daycare seems fine with it. Accidents generally occur because she's so busy/involved with an activity that she forgets to go until it's too late.

If she's only having 1-2 accidents a day, I would not go back to pull ups. She knows what she needs to do, she just needs to figure out how to coordinate the effort better.

Well, we have even less experience with this than you, but our newly trained toddler had 2 accidents yesterday and 1 accident today, and our daycare told us this is better than average for a kid that was trained over the weekend. So I think your LO sounds pretty normal. I would definitely try to talk to your teachers though, just to check in.

As for self-initiation, I've read that it can take many weeks for toddlers to really start to doing it consistently, and even then, they will still have accidents every so often. So I think at this stage, you definitely still have to remind them at home.

My DD had lots of accidents at daycare when she was starting to train. Probably one a day for a week or so, then a couple times a week for a month. She'd have some dry days in there and we knew she was making progress, but she was just learning and so it wasn't a big deal , for me or daycare .

As for the routine thing, I think that's normal with day care... My DD has been trained for 6 months and still has trouble telling me when she needs to go because at daycare it's just ingrained in their day. So I mostly do it at home too (it's lunch time, time to potty...we're going out to play, time to potty, etc)

I don't potty train kids, but I have newly potty trained three-year-olds enter my classroom regularly and I think this sounds in the ranger of normal. I feel like kids aren't "ready" when they have no sense of what their body is telling them and have multiple accidents a day, every day in a row.
Do you get daily sheets about her day? Can they put info on there? It may be easier to see a pattern - is it always a bm? A certain time of day?, etc

My almost 3 year old has been in underwear for a bit over a week. She asked herself, after months of going in pull-ups and not much interest otherwise. Overall she's done ok but I have a sense it's more because daycare takes her regularly rather than her telling them she needs to go. She will tell me/DH but it's inconsistent. Daycare has urged us to continue with it when we ask how she's doing but we don't get a lot of feedback from them on what happens. She had an accident today and we have no idea why- both teachers were gone by pickup time and no notes and she's had 2 poop accidents last week, even though we told them to give her a diaper if she's looking like she needs to poop (she's not a fan of the potty for poop and they told us they can tell when she needs to poop).

I don't expect daycare to train her but since they're with her every day for 9 hours, I'd love more feedback and whether we're on the right track or if we need to do something different. Any ideas on what to ask for or how to approach this? I know accidents will happen but how many is too many to say she's not there yet and go back to pull-ups (and she is asking for underwear herself, which is why we're trying to capitalize on this).
