We're giving ourselves two weeks. I think it will work out if he can ever remember to poop on the potty. Pee he's got down after a full week. I'm glad I did it now and didn't wait till winter.

We started potty training DS ~2.5 weeks before school started and it worked out great. (We started on 8/19, school started on 9/6.) We waited until then because we had a newborn in the house and wanted to give him time to adjust and not deal with a major potty regression when baby arrived. He was fully trained by the time he went to school and we had basically no hiccups (he turned 3 a few days before school started).

We didn't do the oh crap method, just kind of an old school take him to the potty every x minutes, increasing the interval as he got it. Sticker for every pee and a prize (hot wheels car) for every poop/day he stayed dry. Caveat: he's a pretty easy kid and very bribeable.

How close to the start of preschool would you potty train? My younger daughter is 2 years 8 months, starts preschool the week after Labor Day. She doesn’t have to be potty trained to start, but I had it in my head that it would be easier to do it before. She seems interested- frequently saying she has to go potty, though when she sits on the toilet she never goes.

For my older daughter we did the Oh Crap/ 3 day method, roughly. I dont love the idea of “wasting” the last week or two of summer sitting in the house with both kids on potty alert. But it has to happen at some point...

And I stay at home, so that gives me a little more flexibility. DH works from home too so can assist in a pinch.
