@jetsa: We are doing a potty "learning" approach. I sit him on there after meals and naps and read him a book to keep him entertained and tell him he can do wees or poos and make a fuss if he does. If we have any nappy free time during the day and he does a wee on the floor or in the bath or whereever I NEVER tell him off... I just say neutrally "your doing a wee E. You did a wee." so he associates what he is doing with that word. Seems to be going ok so far. I would LOVE him to be trained by the time bub #2 is here but not fazed if he isn't.... I'm not worried about regression... there is always "something" that could trigger regression and there is a chance there will be no regression at all! :-) Goodluck.

Following! My son (19m) has been asking for the potty and peeing on it!! 4 times today!!! He has never pooped on it though. I wanted to take the no pressure approach but I'm sort of wondering whether I need to just go for it!

@jetsa: Aside from the occasional pee/poop on her potty, not much. Their daycare needed to get her into the toddler room, but they needed her to be potty trained. They tried it, and it worked! Best wishes!

I think it's possible! We were playing around with the potty at that point but not really training. I would wonder if an 18 mo can really pull pants up and down successfully....

@jetsa: seems early but if you think he's ready, go for it! Of course, trying to train a child that isn't ready is very frustrating.

We bought a potty at that point as just a fun thing to play with. She'd get it and pretend to sit on it and we'd all have fun. It was still a full year before she was ready, though.

@jetsa: She was taking off wet diapers because she couldn't stand them, watching others use the bathroom, able to understand pee and poop.

She was the only one in her class trained. The teachers thought we were crazy until she came in on Tuesday potty trained.

We introduced the potty at almost 22 months, home and day care. She loves to sit on it, but has only gone once, which was a fluke. She isn't ready at all. I mean no point in training her when she can't pull her pants down.

@LuLu Mom: thanks, it's actually not dirreha the dr just said after trying everything that it must be a combo of sensitive skin and a teething enzyme...so just highly annoying lol

My daughter started to show interested around then, we sat for fun/ect. but nothing serious. We didn't day potty train until she was 25 months old and knew she was ready, she would tell us most times when she had to go at this point.

Honestly, if he's suffering from diarrhea from teething (guessing this is causing the rash) I don't think he will have the reaction time necessary to get to the potty and you will be dealing with a LOT of messy accidents.

We have introduced the potty to our 15 month old. She sits on it most nights before bed/bathtime. She has peed in in a number of times but we are more just trying to get her used to the potty. Daycare doesn't do any potty training until she moves up to the next room but when I'm on maternity leave (DD will be 17 months), I am going to try to get her potty trained, without putting too much pressure on it.

We tried at 18 months, it was kind of a fail but we could tell DS is almost ready and tried again at 20 months... it worked! It's never too early to start. Even if you put him on the potty and he does what he should sometimes, it still adds up to him being in wet or dirty diapers less, and so less rash! Day care was pretty supportive, hopefully yours is too and you can ask them to also start getting him familiar with the potty.

It's possible! We potty trained DD at 15 months using the 3 day method. It doesn't always work for everyone, but a lot has people have used it with success. And it isn't always the case that girls are ready earlier than boys. I've worked daycares for the past few years and have seen some boys train early and some girls train late. It depends on the child not the gender. If your son is interested in the potty definitely encourage his interest!
If he was trained before 2 would his daycare have a potty available for him to use? It can be hard to potty train if you're not getting support at daycare. He'll need consistency in both places.

A lot of my friends introduced the potty at that age but it seemed more like they were able to tell when their kid was going to go than the kid proactively asking for the potty. Not saying it's impossible, just really unusual. I think 2 is a better age to start actual "training".

Our neighbor's daughter was potty trained at 18 months. Girls are easier than boys? (or is that an old wives tale?) ... She did something called the 3 Day Method (something like that). It's worth a try!

Potty at regular times throughout the day. Spend like 10 minutes chilling and reading on the potty especially at typical poop times (my daughter always goes after breakfast).

That said, my (21 month old) daughter has been peeing and pooping on the potty several times a day for months, but still goes in her diaper or undies occasionally. We did "potty learning" so it has taken much longer than any "3 day method"

My daughter is 15 months and I stick her on the potty regularly. She asks sometimes but I also just stick her on sometimes when she wakes up and between diaper changes. She's a twice a day pooper ( though never at the same time of day) and will go several days with them all being on the potty (but the opposite happens too- getting less frequent though). We did the same with my older daughter and she poop trained first and slowly did more and more of her pee pees on the potty.

My son is super interested in the toilet and he has chronic teething diaper rashes so I'm just wondering if this is a thing.

Daycare says they'll wait until 2-2.5 but I'm sick of these rashes and seeing him in pain!

He doesn't tell us yet if his diaper is poopy or wet so that is holding me back.
