@Mrsbells: totally! As we are approaching potty training, this doesn't seem as gross. When DS was just a baby, I remember being at a farm in the height of apple picking season and seeing a person dump pee from a potty into bushes. I was disgusted, but now I get it.

I kept a potty in my car. I also had gloves and wipes. If i knew it was poop, i would line a small trash bag in the potty, to make disposal easier and not stink up my car. We used it even after potty training. It was always easier to go in the car potty then rush to find a public toilet. I am a germ freak, I even keep a container of water and soap in my car to wash hands.

I would bring the portable potty. When LO was very young and barely walking, I had already trained her through EC method. Anyway, we were at the beach park and without anyone noticing, she got a hold of my cousin's beach pail and peed in it. It was hilarious to me but my cousin, who is a germophobe, was thoroughly grossed out. As was her son, as it was actually his pail. I was a little proud but I had to hide it since it was upsetting to them!! :)

@mrsog: i think it might only be gross to non parents. Any parent who has been through potty training would have no issue with it

Another vote for the Potette - it comes with bags that are totally non-gross. DD1 (4) recently used it on a car trip because she desperately had to poop in a parking lot, poor kiddo, because there were no other options for miles in standstill beach traffic.

portable potty--we have the potette. I don't get why it would be gross at all.

I'd go back to the house for #2.

Agree with taking a little potty! We keep one in my car at all times and it's come in handy when we're in the middle of no where and she needs to go! I can't even count the number of times we've used it on the go, lol.

we used the 'potette' successfully 4 times (3 times my niece...1 by my son) on the beach last week. It's cleaner for them (no gross trip to the bathroom while wet) and faster. we put the potty in between two chairs so nobody knew we had it.

@avivoca: this is what I wanted to hear! I think its totally ok and it's what I'm leaning towards doing. I don't think the family we will be with will care and I guess I can even put it in the tent for privacy when he goes. I do think he will poop during the day in it though but I can just put a bag in it and throw it away.

I would totally bring a potty! Also, we went to Disney very shortly after potty training and put him in pull ups just in case, but didn't make a big deal or tell him he could just go in his pull up and he still always told us when he needed to go.

If it's gross, then I'm gross. I keep a portable potty in my car for when she needs to go. We use it at church (we meet outside in the summer and the only other option is a port-a-potty) and she has peed in many a parking lot, the busiest being the Home Depot lot.

If it bothers people, I don't care. So I'm on team bring-your-own. I also have hand sanitizer on hand to clean it out and she's never pooped in it.

I started potty training my son the beginning of July and it has gone really great so far. He hasn't had any accidents since the initial 3 days and even went right into night training because he refused to wear pull-ups.
So my question... We are going to the shore the second week of August and the beach we go to does not have a public bathroom. Technically we are walking distance to get back to the house but its a bit of a walk and across a main street. What would you do about bathroom trips during the day? Should we bring a portable potty for him to use or is that totally gross to do on the beach?
