We are in the midst of this now. C is only 20 months but she was showing some ready signs so we used this long weekend to try the 3 day method. Today was day 3 and she had no accidents !! I was shocked it worked so quickly. I know she's young, but she's going to have so many changes this summer - big girl bed, new room, and baby that I didn't want to add potty training on top of it. We are far enough out now that she will have time to get used to it before baby comes. I'm hoping it sticks !!

We waited until after. DD was ready about a month and a half before baby but we put it off. We're starting again now at 28 months. Ours are 23 months apart.

I waited because of the regressions i had heard about from other friends with 2 kids. She was almost 2.5 yrs when she was potty trained. Dd2 was born when she was 27 months.

Ds will be just over 2.5 when ds2 arrives in July. We did a lot of transitions in 2 month increments. We moved him to a twin bed in January and potty trained him in March. He's been showing signs for a long time that he's ready so I knew we weren't pushing it and glad to say that it went a lot smoother than I thought. Pee took a few takes and poops about a week longer. He's fully trained now including naps and overnight!

We potty trained LO by 27m and baby arrived at 28m. There was no regressions but even now 9m later she needs help wiping and some days she just can't possible get on the toilet by herself!! Even though she's fully capable.
My older was definitely ready and I didn't want two in diapers if we could help it!

I'm 33 weeks DS is 28 months. We were doing really good at 26 months. He was telling us he needed to go and was doing great at daycare. But then about a month ago he began pushing back and fighting us over it. So We backed off at home and at school. He will occasionally do it right now so I'm hoping we can just maintain and regroup after baby comes. Right now I don't have the energy to mess with it.

we potty trained our then 26 month old about 2 months before baby came. I was petrified of doing it but she was slated to start a little preschool that required the students be potty trained. We got so lucky in that she took to it. I expected regression 2 months later when baby arrived, but she didn't.

We potty trained 3 months before new baby was due. It was the perfect time and I have no regrets. I'm soooooo glad we did it then because I think it would be even harder with a baby and we didn't want to wait forever to do it. My daughter was 2.5 when ds arrived.

I guess I feel like she will be at just the right age for it right around the time the new baby arrives- so I will have to do it too early or too late. But of course, who knows? Every kid has their own time line. She does wake up with almost dry diapers already, and tells me when she is pooping sometimes, so those are probably good signs I think?

I intended to wait, but all of a sudden (3 months before baby), he got really interested. I didn't want to discourage it. He is fully trained now, but I'm expecting he will regress some when baby arrives. I had planned to start around 30/32 months.

We did it before. LO1 was 2.5 when we trained and LO2 arrived just before he turned 3. But by then he had had almost 6 solid months of training under his belt, and about 4 months of being completely diaper free. We had regressions for a few weeks after LO2 was born, but nothing horrible (just more frequent accidents), and then things went back to normal.

I waited, but DD1 was only 23.5 months when DD2 came. I'm not sure whether it was the right call. I feel like I missed the window where she was most interested and eager, but I don't think she would have been completely trained before her sister came. We're settling in for potty training over Memorial Day (she'll be a week shy of 2.5), so I'll have to report back!

I waited but DD was 25 months when DD2 was born. For us, it was a very long process so I would start sooner rather than later! We started at 26 months and it took her until 2.5 to get the hang of it. By 2.5 she could actually go by herself (pull down her leggings, sit on her potty seat, use flushable wipes and could pull her undies and leggings back up), I would be within sight but if I had to put baby down or stop nursing - it at least saved me some time before an accident occurred (but I would still go help her, wash her hands and clean the potty seat). Between 2.5-3, she has gotten the hang of it pretty well but still there have been a few accidents (1 a month usually) and sometimes I just have to hold baby while helping her. It's tough but you just learn to deal.

I would do it before only if you have enough time for her to get it down. We just PTd at 2.5 and LO2 is coming in Oct...it has been an amazingly quick process (fully pee and poop trained in 5 days) so I feel confident that it will be completely second nature, with hopefully minimal regressions, by October. You also may find that your LO has her own ideas--you don't want to push her before she's ready but I also feel like you don't want to make her wait and miss the window if she is showing a lot of readiness.

I had the same issue--my son was going to be almost 3 when my second was due to be born. I had planned to potty train during my second trimester when my older son was 2.5, but never ended up feeling well enough to do it. I just started potty training him two weeks ago--my son is 3 yrs 1 month and my baby is almost 4 months. So far, so good, and I'm really glad I waited. Squatting down to help my child get on and off the potty, doing messy cleanups, etc., would have been difficult while pregnant and pretty much impossible during postpartum recovery. Also, at least for us, potty training has not been a quick process, so I feel it's been better to do it at a time when I know I'm good for the long haul--not right before I would be out of commission with a new baby.

C will be almost 2.5 when this new baby is born. We haven't really thought about when or how to potty train yet, and I will certainly wait until she seems ready, but curious to hear about people's experiences with potty training before or after the arrival of a new baby.

My gut tells me it would be easier to wait, since I can only imagine she will need to use the potty RIGHT NOW as soon as the new baby starts nursing or is almost asleep in my arms or something.
