Well it ended up being a moot point today, as all our potty action happened on the floor and none made it to the potty. Tomorrow is another day!

We get lots of poop in the little potty, I dump, wipe and spray with cleaner for almost all poops. It's the babies favorite thing to check out so I try to keep it clean...

For pee, I dump it in the toilet, add some water from the sink, then dump that in the toilet too. I keep a bottle of Lysol spray and a roll of paper towels in the bathroom and wipe it out once a day and after poop.

We had the IKEA potty chair and I just put both pieces in the dishwasher every so often. And then run the dishwasher cleaning cycle after.

I would dump out pee in the toilet and rinse in the sink. We didn't have too many poops in the little potty, but when we did I'd dump it in the toilet or use toilet paper to get it out and then wipe with a Clorox wipe. He only ever did one at a time, luckily.

But if you can, getting them to use the real toilet is so much easier!

@helloperidot: yes, dump in the toilet and not the sink or tub! I fill it up in the sink so it doesn't splash like it would in the tub.

My SIL had a great trick of dumping the waste in the toilet, filling the pot with clean water/soap, and then continuing to dump it out in the toilet. That way dirty water never touches your sink. She told me this and I was like "why the hell didn't I think of that?" And like erinbaderin, we wipe ours down with Clorox wipes once a week too.

For pee, just dump and rinse.
For poop, dump, fill with water, dump, spray with cleaner and wipe out with a paper towel or Clorox wipes then give it one last rinse. And we got a Next step toilet seat to try and avoid poops in the potty seat but my 2 boys insist on pooping together so that didn't work. Boys are gross.

I just rinse it in the sink for pee, and wipe it out with toilet paper for poop and rinse. I mean, that's all a toilet does. Once a week or so I wipe it all down with Lysol wipes.

So. We are starting potty training tomorrow and we have a baby bjorn potty chair. I'm kind of grossed out by the whole pot thing. Obviously I can dump the contents in the toilet but then what? Where/how do you clean the pot? I was guessing I'd bleach it in the tub but idk. What did you do?
