We put a little potty in her room. She just started waking up dry after a few weeks of being day trained and then after three nights in a row, we ditched the diapers and just went with it. She has access to the toilet and knows it's where she does her business. And like your LO, doesn't want to wear diapers. In fact, she would take her bedtime diaper off in the morning, then pee in the toilet, and put the diaper in the hamper

We never did the nighttime wake ups. She consolidated her pees after 3-4 weeks of training. A few of my girlfriends at work said their kids just naturally shifted after awhile, too, so I waited to see if that was the case

We just insisted she wear diapers for nights. Wish I had better advice. No naps around here.

Could you use a plastic cover of some sort over underwear? I got some flip trainers to do this with when he starts staying a little drier at night. I also saw a DIY for training pants that have a waterproof layer sewn on the outside and extra absorbency sewn on the inside, but they still look like the regular underwear.

if you want to keep the diaper on, I've heard people say that putting 1-PC zipper pjs on backwards helps when kids refuse to keep a diaper on.

@travelgirl1: I do a potty break when I nurse my newborn. He doesn't need it (he'll wake up), but it's usually around 4:30/5, and sometimes he won't go back to sleep, so if I take him to the potty around 2, I know he will.

@Mamaof2: I put a diaper on her but she just rips it right off. She's a strong willed one!

@birdofafeather: I thought of this but she had a queen bed and rolls all over it so that would be a lot of piddle pads. I might try a plastic sheet under her regular one to save the mattress though.

@Jess1483: she doesn't drink enough as it is. But the waking at intervals is interesting. Although that kills me with a newborn in the house.

we put piddle pads (the dog kind) under her fitted sheet. we haven't done it for nighttime, but this worked for naps.

I think you'd have to limit liquids and wake her at intervals. My understanding is its a developmental milestone.

@travelgirl1: As I told my DS when he was day trained and not night trained "until your brain figures out that it needs to wake you up when you have to pee you might have accidents at night and you need to wear a diaper"

No way to really train them yourself.

Although limiting liquids and peeing right before nap/bed always helps!

How did you do this? I wasn't planning to tackle it yet, but A is so against diapers now she rips them off in bed so she is really forcing our hand. We have tried switching to pull ups for sleep, calling them special underwear but she isn't fooled. And we learned to our cost that those things hold zero poop so we are thinking to take the plunge. Any tips would be hugely appreciated!
