We started training my kid 4 months ago, and 80% of the time, we have to prompt rather than him self-initiating. Thankfully, the one thing he does consistently self-initiate is poop. He only tells us he needs to pee after he's already had a small dribble.

So long as we remember to just take him to the loo at least once every 2.5 hours and avoid scary public toilets we can accident-free. If we fail at either of those things...pee.

It took my daughter forever to tell me she had to go (prob 6 mo) and we had poop accidents daily for a LONG time. I don’t think going back to diapers is a good idea so we just persisted. The poop usually happened when she was squatting down playing so if I saw that I would run to the potty and she also would sometimes say she had to poop right after she went so I think it was hard to distinguish the timing for her. Did you try the play doh poop trick?

@KT326: @macintosh: thank you for the reassurances! My DD1 was a totally different experience so it makes me feel better that we’re still on track

Keep it up! 2 weeks seems like forever but it took my son over a month before he stopped having occasional accidents. She's on the right track.

I still have to remind my almost 6 year old to stop playing and go potty. He just gets into playing and doesn't want to stop. I think it's completely normal at 3. It also took us about 6 weeks after he was pee trained to get him to poop on the potty.

My DD2 is two months shy of three years old and we are in the midst of potty training. For the last two weeks she has been semi successful. She can hold her pee and as long as I am vigilant in telling her to go, she will stay dry and pee on the potty all day. The problems are 1) she NEVER asks me to go and if I don’t ask her in time or am not on top of her she will have an accident (and not care about being wet either) and 2) she has a poop accident every day in her underwear and just isn’t getting that concept at all (and it’s so freakin gross)

So my question is where to go from here? Keep pushing along until she “gets it”? Or give up and try at a later time?
