Thanks for all the replies ladies! DD just turned two in April. So I know she's still very young. I'm okay with her still wearing diapers at night for awhile longer if need be, I just didn't want it to inhibit her or cause her to regress during the day. I've been waking her up in the middle of the night and taking her for the past week almost and so far we've had a few dry days and some not so dry. I'm going to give this another week or two and maybe use some candy or stickers and see if it helps. If not we may just go back to diapers and I'll have to be better about going in and getting her up as soon as I hear her. @KayKay: I have the same issue as you with not knowing exactly when she's awake and she pees before I get to her! All the other research I've done says they can't really control it this young and my hubby was a bed wetter for a long time, so I'm going to do my best not to push it too hard just yet.

I let my son wear pull ups until he decided he didn't want them any longer. I think he had just turned 5, so this winter?

Anywho, part of what you're looking for is for them to wake up in the night if they have to go, not to hold it the entire night. So if your child isn't doing that, they're not really ready to night train, IMO. Also, they need to be secreting a hormone or enzyme (not sure which) where they begin to produce less urine overnight, so there's not much you can do to actually night train.

We had a similar issue. When DD1 first day-trained, we kept her in diapers for naps and night. She pretty quickly figured out the nap thing, since it wasn't for very long. And then maybe a month later, was waking up pretty consistently dry in the morning. But she still wouldn't get out of her big girl bed in the morning by herself, and if she wasn't making a lot of noise, I wouldn't necessarily know she was awake...and she quickly figured out she could pee in her diaper if she had to/wanted to. So I'd go to get her, and her diaper would be full of warm pee that she had obviously just done. We ended up using mini m&ms to reward her if she was dry overnight, which stopped the peeing pretty quickly. Then I just tapered off (basically if she remembered, I'd give them to her...but not if she didn't). And at some point then we stopped the night diapers altogether (but still used some training underpants at night to help soak things up just in case). She had a handful of accidents, especially around when we moved houses, but overall not too bad.

How old is LO? Talk to your pediatrician. Ours was adamant we not push night training because many kids aren't physically able to be night trained until much later than they normally are day trained. (We were told night training isn't an issue until 6).

Lo is 3.5, wet most mornings. We finally told her that the package of pull ups we just opened are it. Once they are gone, she has to wear undies to bed, and if she has an accident, she has to help change her bed. I guess we will see in about 4 weeks.

@PinkElephant: I am in the same boat as you! DS is 4.5 years old now, have been daytime trained FOREVER (honestly forgot how long ago it was), but has seldom wake up dry. I went from worried to denial to I am not even sure how I should feel about it. Even if he goes to the potty right before bedtime, he still wakes up wet the next morning. I am really hoping it is developmental (everyone told me so but it is hard to accept when everyone our age is night trained) and one day it just happens or he'd be wearing diapers still when he gets married :(

Can you talk up being dry in the mornings, maybe do a sticker chart with some kind of reward/incentive for continuing success? It does sound like maybe she's just realized she doesn't "have" to be dry when she has a diaper on, but it's hard to say. My DD has been daytime potty trained over a year and still isn't waking up dry in the morning (she never has)...I am a pretty big believer that some of it is developmental and you just can't push it. However, your DD's previous success sounds like she COULD be physiologically ready, so it might be worth a try.

Hey ladies,
I'm wondering if any of you have some tips/tricks for potty training overnight? My daughter has been pretty much fully potty trained during the day for several months. She had been waking up dry or nearly dry in the mornings and then would go as soon as we took her. Lately though she has been waking up wet and not going when we take her. She will tell us that she already went in her diaper. So I'm thinking we should do away with the diapers at night. Obviously I understand it's going to be a process and I'm going to be washing sheets a lot, but any advice or tips would be appreciated!
