We went through weeks/months? Of withholding pee and poop. I feel like I’ve mentally blocked it because it was so stressful! Same thing, he would hold poop and go at night which interrupted his sleep and made him super upset. He would have insane pee explosions as well and be writhing on the floor in discomfort.

It took time for sure, and we’ve been giving him about a 1/3 dose of restoralax every day/every other day for almost a year because he became very very constipated. That was a game changer. Also upping the rewards for poop: I bought like 100 used toy cars for $30 and he got one for every poop for a few months. I also made up this ridiculous song and dance that made him laugh and relax whenever he was on the potty. We bought all the books about poop and brought them out only on the potty, and made it as silly and funny as possible even though I was literally wanting to tear my hair out in frustration. I don’t think it was any one thing but we just had to let him come around. Now he is super regular for pee and poop, but does withhold when starting a new routine (like he refused to go at school when he started J.K. earlier this year but he came around and got confident the last couple weeks) Potty training was the worst battle we had all my sons life so far...not looking forward to training our other son!

@Mrsbells: She hasn't really been that motivated by rewards... but I'm ready to step it up by dangling a big fun toy in front of her :silly:

@Foodnerd81: I really think the issue is that she needs to poop but she couldn't just let the pee out and not the poop so she held it all. I've tried videos a few times, but still no luck. I think I really need to dig deep and find the patience to sit in the bathroom with her for half a day . She's much more stubborn than my son was, I shouldn't have thought this would be an easy process.

I know when my LO was getting the hang of pooping on the potty we had a lot of what you describe- try, nothing, try, nothing, try, nothing, pee accident. Neither of my kids had any real trouble with pooping on the potty after the first couple days though, so I can’t help there. I just would think the pee accidents are related to the not pooping.

You’ve tried letting her watch a video or something on the toilet to get over the anxiety/ over thinking? That’s how I got my youngest over it- when she forgot about it because she was engrossed in daniel tiger, the poop cane out. She got freaked out and tried to stand up mid poop and I had to hold her on the potty, but after that it wasn’t as upsetting.

@kiddosc: definitely holding poop can lead for constipation, noy sure if that caused this chaing of events or if she was already constipated to begin with. Does it help having a chart and giving rewards for pooping on the toilet?

A will be 3 at the end of February. We've been potty training for about a month and she's been doing great. A week ago we switched to undies at daycare full time because she had been keeping her pull-up dry there for a few weeks.

We're still struggling with poop though, which happened with my my older son as well. He was happy to put on a diaper to go though, and eventually gained the confidence to go on the toilet. A will absolutely not put on a diaper though, and also refuses to go on the potty. So now, she holds all day and will poop in her sleep (still wearing a diaper at night). She used to poop twice a day, but now it's once, or every other day.

Starting this weekend, she would ask to go to the bathroom multiple times and nothing would happen. We'd sit for a few mins, she'd say she was done, we'd get down and then repeat the process a few mins later. I figured she was holding her poop and tried to get her to put a diaper on, but she wasn't having any of that. Eventually she'd have a pee accident even though we'd been on the toilet 6 times in the previous 15 minutes. Now, the girl who's been dry for weeks at daycare has had three pee accidents in the last two days, and had three accidents at home over the weekend, even though she has been on the toilet plenty of times leading up to the accidents.

I need help figuring out what's going on before I can even begin to address the problem. Is she constipated causing her to have accidents, is she being defiant and trying to resist using the potty at all, does she have a UTI (no fever or complaints of pain), is this just some typical regression? I hate potty training with a fiery passion...
