@ShootingStar: I’m glad it’s resolving! Definitely don’t be afraid of using something like miralax if needed, I hope the diet changes do the trick though!

Yeah, I think poop is the problem. We did a children's laxative that seemed to clear her out pretty good on Sunday (two HUGE accidents). And then yesterday at daycare she had no accidents at all. And she pooped in her diaper at nap. I think she must not have pooped in 3 days when she was having continuous pee accidents.

I'm going to try to give her foods to help keep things soft and moving, and if she continues to struggle I'll talk to our doctor about stepping up what we do. The huge poop accidents kind of scared her so I want to get her regular. It's just hard when daycare doesn't give us any insight into what she's doing. I was assuming she was pooping during the day, but apparently that was totally wrong.

Completely agree with @bhbee. Even though she pooped she could still be constipated. My oldest had functional constipation, he would go every day but he was still backed up. We had to do a clean out and then daily dose of miralax for almost two years. We still do doses of miralax if I notice he’s having issues and he is almost 8 years old.

Also if you’re exploring this issue, “It’s no accident” was the book that helped me understand it best.

What’s the long term poop situation? What’s the consistency like? Look up one of those poop charts. Even if they go daily, they can still have a mass in the colon creating that problem. So one dose of miralax or other may not clear it. If that’s the issue, you may need to ask a dr about a cleanout regimen (large dosing over a weekend) then ongoing maintenance.

When we potty trained my daughter at 3 we realized she just could not feel the sensations. It took a long time to realize that but maybe that’s your key, does she know why it’s happening? Seems like a 3 year old would not suddenly have 8 accidents per day unless there’s been something to trigger a big behavior change or she can’t feel it. Your description sounds really familiar to me.

The thing about the nerve situation is it’s not an instant fix. We did the cleanout, and within a week or so after she magically was 100% trained. Her mind was ready but not the signals, they have to readjust. She had learned to hold her pee for a really long time which mostly prevented accidents, but couldn’t get her to 100% trained and probably wasn’t healthy. But the cleanout was magical in how it helped.

At the time I couldn’t see constipation as the issue because she was going even if it wasn’t maybe soft or frequent enough - but looking back (and now years later) I can see that biology was against her from the time she started solid food even with varied eating. My next kid was totally average on potty stuff and I didn’t do anything differently.

Sorry for the novel. Even if this is not your issue figured may help someone out there!

I’m so frustrated with my three year old right now, idk what to do. Potty training has been a long, difficult road with her. She’s never been super consistent, but we’d have days without accidents or maybe one/day. But the last week has been a disaster. Going through as many as 8 outfits a day at daycare.

I read that constipation can cause pee accidents because of pressure on the bladder. But I gave her some stuff and she pooped this morning and then two pee accidents in under an hour.

I’m at a loss as to what to do. She’s finally at the point where she’s stopped resisting going, but it’s like she’s lost all ability to hold it. Daycare is frustrated with us. I’m frustrated with her.

I don’t want to take a step but I just don’t know what to do.
