@Ree723: we had a weird first day. Started out diaper free for the first three hours but we had to go out and had plans with my mil. I knew that wasn't the greatest idea for potty training but we were going swimming with her since she's on Christmas break. We had 2 accidents and no successes... Swimming & diaper while out. Then post nap time he held it all afternoon and then had an accidet right before I was going to have him try again. Sigh, now bath & bedtime. He did ask to go potty at the pool and we went but nothing came out. He realizes it as it's happening, not before. We are trying full swing again all day tomorrow and then might reevaluate the timing if we have no progress. I just don't know. Potty training is very scary for me and I'm not sure why!

Another one here who attempted potty training over the Christmas break. We lasted two hours before I pulled the plug, sigh. We were trying the bottom free method but DD (just turned 2.5 yrs) doesn't seem to do normal pees - she just dribbles out a bit of pee every few minutes. There's no period of dryness, followed by a big pee, it's just an almost constant trickle. Does this mean she's not ready? She was interested in the potty, and super interested in her potty rewards, but she just can't seem to hold the pee to go all at once in the potty. Not sure if we should keep trying or give it a rest.

To be fair, whilst DH is off work for these two weeks, we have a lot of home renovation projects going on, and a 10.5 month old to chase after amongst the chaos, so it might not be the world's greatest timing.

How's it going for everyone else?

@Mrs. Pen: Just checking in on your potty training journey... Any progress? I think we are starting seriously today but we will see how it goes. My mom seems skeptical that we should try but I just feel like it has to happen sometime, right? And we can always stop and try again later if he's not ready yet, right? What were your first days of potty training like?

@creativemomma15: our LO's are nearly the same age then - J will be 3 02/22. It terrifies me too, honestly. I don't want to potty-train at all, I just feel like I should. If I didn't feel that way, I'd probably just let him wear diapers til he said he doesn't want to ;) Ha. It's honestly so much easier, and you don't have to worry about outings and finding/getting to bathrooms quickly, or car rides or anything. It's just so stressful!

@loveisstrange: J has yet to even once pee in the toilet as well. I always try before bathtime because I know that's when he always needs to go - but he won't! But the second he's in the bathtub... ugh. I don't think it's because he's stubborn per se? But he just won't use the potty, even though he's willing to sit on it.

We just followed a method from our daycare. LO in the beginning would go on the potty every half hour. We had accidents but got better when we could read his signs better. We do potty now every hour or hour and a half with him. Now, he barely goes without a potty break in between breaks of activity or time. He's still in a night diaper, but we're thinking of pulling that in the New Year. For naps, he's in undies. What works for dry naps is to reinforce that he needs to pee in the potty not his bed.

@Eminthevalley: yeah not good either... we had the potty chair in the kitchen (wood floor) while he played playdough for awhile- but he just didn't have to go for the entire evening! In the bathroom we had trouble too - he kept trying to touch the real toilet (ew - but in his defense, our bathroom is TINY so it's right next to him), then not listening about touching things, the whole washing hands thing is a mess too. It's very wearing for sure! He'll be three in February and I'd be fine with just putting up with diapers for awhile, I feel the pressure to at least try.

@Mrs. Pen: well, we tried for two hours...does that count? One of my twins was sick, but we thought we'd work with the other one. The actual potty part was okay, but the whole bathroom experience was out of control! B kept stepping up to the sink and running water all over his sleeves while A was on the potty, or he would want to flush the toilet while I was sitting on it while A was on the potty...I threw in the towel at 8:45 a.m. I was exhausted! I totally need to rethink this whole process. How did your first day go?
