Before potty training, my daughter pooped 2-3 times a day. Now it's once a day, and usually in the morning. So we make it a part of our daily routine to sit her on the potty for a while and just leave her to do her thing. I'll leave her there with the door open while I'm getting her little sister dressed and packing my lunch, etc. She knows to yell for me when she's done and she's so proud to show me her poop lol. Sometimes she's more resistant and we have to bribe (we always do food that she doesn't get often - chocolate milk, fruit snacks, or she's super into pretzels right now...). Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes 25. But she goes during that time 95% of the time. It was about once a day for a couple weeks. We thought about washing them and decided it wasn't worth it, wouldn't go on forever, and underwear are cheap! So we tossed one pair a day for a little while. I have to say, someone here suggested the idea of "catching" the poop timing by doing it 10 min after meals and it was a lifesaver. We actually went one step further and had her run around after the meal for 10 min to get things moving. Worked like a charm, and now she requests "poopin time" so she can sit and try for a bit. Also, all the rewards. We have used "special candy" (fruit snacks) as well as special cereal, cookies, stickers, dollar store toys, etc. Anything that will keep her motivated and keep the experience positive. Our girl is not one you want to butt heads with about anything. We skipped bottomless for more-or-less the same reasons @DESERTDREAMS88 mentioned. </p> <p>Even a year later, the time between "I need to pee" and "oops" is only about 15 minutes. When we're at home or spending a long time in a familiar place, we leave it to LO to self-initiate other than first thing in the morning and before bed. There are conditions were we prompt: We always make a trip to the loo before getting in the car (even if he just went 30 minutes ago), and every 90 minutes while we're on a long drive or while out-and-about in an unfamiliar place. </p> <p>We started off using pullups for nap and overnight. We dropped pullups for nap really early since he was almost always dry. We kept using pullups for 6-7mos overnight -- he spent a really long time being dry 9 times out of 10 without any apparent progress. Eventually, he just said he didn't want to wear pullups at night, so we stopped. We knew the 3 or 5 day method wasn't for her, as she resists and becomes defiant if she feels pressured about anything, no matter how much we talk it up. We did use pull ups for a while and called them big girl diapers, and took her to the potty as much as possible without putting pressure on her. After a month or two she was dry and successfully using the potty maybe 90% of the time and we switched to underwear (she insisted on buying Elmo underwear at the store one day). She was instantly 100% with pee but took another 2 weeks or so to figure out poop. We threw away a lot of underwear! But we started putting her on the potty with some books or her tablet about 10 min after every meal and she figured out pooping on her own that way. She really just needed something to distract her enough to sit still. When we got baby N when O was exactly 2.5 she regressed a little and had some pee accidents maybe 2-3 times a week, but we had also gotten lazy about taking her often enough. We got a sticker chart and started taking her every hour or so and haven't had a pee accident since. She only naps an hour some days so we never thought to put a pull up on for naps and she's never had a problem. We haven't even considered night training as we believe it isn't possible because of that enzyme and pull ups are so easy and also she was the world's worst sleeper so you couldn't pay me enough to disturb her sleep. We kept DS in diapers or pull ups until he was consistently dry and it was no big deal. </p> <p>The one thing I'll do differently this time is no pull ups except at night.
