How is everyone doing?

I didn't post on this thread originally because I in a bad potty training place at the time. DD is 2.5, has been pooping in the potty for months, started getting the idea of pee in May, DS born in June, total regression (as expected), and we're finally back on track. She's been in underwear at daycare for three weeks now and doing well. Most days are accident free.

And then there was tonight. DH & I took a walk with the kids and made the impromptu decision to eat at a restaurant. Both kids were surprisingly well behaved. After dinner, before dessert, I asked LO to come to the bathroom with me. When we got to the bathroom I noticed she was soaked. Ugh. She decides its time to go poop so we occupy the single stall for a while, creating a nice long line. I didn't have my phone on me so I couldn't text DH to grab the change of clothes or anything.

When LO was done we left the bathroom with her still in her wet clothes. I was armed with wet and dry paper towels to do my best with the mess. Small problem, the high chair is gone. A waitress took it for another family. There's already a kid in it. So we hurried the heck out of there after leaving a huge tip. I'm so sorry to that other family.

@Applesandbananas: We did OCPT and I had the same concern. On Day 1, we made playdoh, built a bulldozer out of a big cardboard box, and made muffins. We also played regular games around the house and spent a lot of time outside. I found it most helpful to have a small travel potty that was always in the same room as him.

By Day 2, I was too exhausted to plan anything special. We laid low and did take a short trip around the block to walk the dog.

I had such cabin fever by the 3rd day but surprisingly, LO loved it. He was happy as a clam to be playing with trains and doing puzzles with me all day long.

Oh, we also invited friends over for playdates. He could run around pantless with his friends in our house, and that helped occupy an hour or two each day.

Good luck! :goodluck: We started 3 weeks ago and still have good days and bad days (today was a bad day :bummed: ). It's starting to feel like an endless process!

OCPT: what did you do during potty training?!

We go out every weekend, pretty much all weekend. This weekend, for example, we went to the trampoline park, playgroup, the park, played in our backyard, went to the zoo, went to the store, etc.

So staying home all of Labor Day weekend (which is the plan!) seems daunting! What are we supposed to do??

Did you go outside? Or stay super close to the potty? Did you watch videos?

I've been putting together a list of ideas but three whole days at home is a lot of time to fill!

@DillonLion: DS starts pre-school in a few weeks and I think they have a similar set up, bathroom in the classroom with a small potty and the kids can go in and out as needed on their own or with help.

@Applesandbananas: We tackled day training and nap training just kind of fell into place a few days later. And night training just happened about 3 weeks after we day trained! The book said that many kids consolidate their pees and my friends have said their kids just fell into naturally holding their pee at night, so we decided to wait and see, and if that wasn't the case for E, night train over the Christmas holiday. We keep the little potty in her room at night and we notice she plays in her bed for about an hour before she actually sleeps, but she will get up and use her potty chair, then go to bed. So Dh will dump it before he goes to bed. And in the morning, she must get up before us, because there's always pee in it. I actually really like this set up b/c it eliminates the "Mommy i have to pee!" followed by an hour or two of toddler play time because she got to see us. And i'm usually trapped nursing the baby at 6am when she starts to rouse. There *is* a developmental aspect to it, but the idea of doing both at the same time overwhelmed me, so i figured we'd just wait and see how it panned out

@Applesandbananas: I think it is a developmental thing like @Silva: said. Their body has to be able to hold it for that long, or know they need to wake up to pee. I don't think you can force it.
I haven't read the whole book yet, so I am not sure what she says about it yet. But 10-12 hours is a long time. I can't do it so I am not expecting her too. I get 1-3 times a night myself, not adding a trip with her if I can help it.

We've been doing a slooooowwww method for a year now. I haven't changed a poopy diaper since she was 2ish, but pee has been a little slower for us. She is almost 2.5 now and has occasional accidents still/ the car is tough for her.
My new problem is that she woke up at 5:30 today and 5:45 yesterday saying she needed to pee (she did). It is then, of course, nearly impossible to get her back to sleep (although to her credit she tried awfully hard this morning).
Holding pee for 11 hours seems pretty tricky. How does the overnight thing work? I assumed it was a developmental thing that she'd just do when she was ready.

@Applesandbananas: well her diaper is still full overnight. I know myself I had bed wetting issues till 5 or so. I just have a small bladder. So we will just see if she starts being dry in the morning. I don't want her waking up 30 mins into a nap cause either cause she wouldn't go back to sleep.

We've been doing very gentle training led by DD but we need to get a move on with underwear. She goes bottomless at home and does great, but when people come visit the new baby or we go out then we put pullups on her (she refuses regular diapers now) and she seems to save her poops for them. The few times we have tried underwear she has treated it as a diaper. No one likes underwear poops :(

My mom watches my niece (8) and nephew (4) also so it's not really feasible for her to watch him at our house. I think it was just a lot for her to process on a Monday morning so I'm hopeful that she'll get on board once she has some coffee :silly:

Ugh. The one crappy (pun intended?) side of having my Mom watch DS is that she has almost no interest in helping to potty train him. She seemed so inconvenienced that he showed up in underwear this morning. She's more worried about her rugs/hardwoods than she is about him going on the potty :bummed: I probably should have planned to take a few days off this week, I guess I'll just have to see how it goes at her house today.

How does it work at daycare? Do the providers just put the kids who are potty training on the potty at regular intervals?

We started potty training last week. My DS is 2. I read the Oh Crap book, and spent about 3 days on block one with him.

Right now, we're on block two, I guess. He goes on the potty without much prompting when we are at home. Our biggest struggle is he has trouble pulling his pants down (or pushing them down, as she says in the book). I let him go without pants at home a lot because of this, which I know I need to stop because he already just wants to be pants-free all the time now!

I'm reading the Oh Crap potty training book and I think we'll start over Labor Day weekend. I'm not sure what daycare's typical process is with potty training... I think most kids wear pull ups so I'm going to have to figure out a good plan with his teachers. There are 10 kids to 1 teacher so expecting her to catch his signals isn't realistic. :(
