@Stardust17: You have the right attitude! All part of the process. Accidents will happen for a long time. But sounds like she did amazing! Well done!

Thanks all!! We had a trial run of what our new commute will look like starting next week. I did a pull up w/ undies over them and didnt draw attention to the pull ups. I took travel potty and let her go halfway through our commute. She stayed dry!! Peed as soon as we reached our destination. Was so proud! However, she then proceeded to have 3 minor accidents within 30 minutes once we were at our final destination where she has access to a regular potty and her travel one bc I took it with me. This was her first day back to a “schedule outside our home” since we potty trained so I’m hoping it was just her being excited, confused, unsure, ect. She will sometimes do this if she needs to have a BM, which she did after lunch...so I guess we press on and pray she will adjust quickly when she goes back to preschool next week. For her and her teachers sanity!! This gets easier, right??? 🤪

We also started potty training in the last couple weeks. We bring a small potty in the car and will have her use it if necessary on the side of the road.

But mostly I wanted to let you know we were afraid to use pull-ups because we thought it would confuse her and cause a regression, but so far our daughter treats pull ups the same as underpants. She will still ask to use the potty even while wearing them. Every kid is different, but it's worth a try to see if your LO is the same. It's nice for us to have the freedom to take her places wearing a pull up and know if she has an accident it won't be a disaster!

In the beginning for any rides over 30 minutes we out a pull up over her underwear and pants. You would still have to change clothes but the pre would be contained. It also means they still feel wet.

We would put a pull up on her as a diaper under her pants if we were driving during nap or thought she was likely to fall asleep though. She still, at 4, pees in her sleep.

I would let the accidents happen and just be ready to change her pants. And, it's really up to you at this point in the processes to help her be successful. So take her to pee often. Bring the potty in the car and you can use it on the side of the road or in the car if needed. That's saved us many times. Also, pull-ups for a while are not a bad thing. I would just make sure to keep offering the potty as if she wasn't wearing them. My just started potty training 2-year-old will hold it even if he has a pull-up on, but he is a super holder, I dont know how he does it.

Same as @muffinsmuffins: for car rides under an hour I put a puddle pad underneath (which, I know you aren’t supposed to put anything between the kid and the car seat, but cleaning a fermented pee and snack crumb disaster out of her seat one time is enough to bend that one rule for now for me). For long car trips she wears a pull up and will tell us she has to pee, but if we are far from our destination we tell her it’s ok if she pees in the pull up this time. So far she doesn’t seem confused, although I do think she would pee in a pull up any time we put her in one. My older daughter refused to pee in a pull up awake as soon as she was potty trained though.

For other times when an accident wouldn’t be a total disaster (like at the store or something) I would bring lots of changes of clothes and paper towels. And I would also bring a couple of pull-ups just in case.

If the car ride was under an hour, I would just do undies and maybe a puppy pad in the car seat just in case. Longer than that, we did pull ups for a bit as my son potentially would fall asleep and he isn’t nap/sleep trained. Get her to go right before you leave the house and you should be good but I would do a puppy pad to avoid a car seat disaster. My son is a holder so he often holds til 3-4 hours have gone by without issue and he’s done that for the year he’s been trained. I think they start to spread out the time between going pee naturally as they get the hang of it and get more confident.

Also I would just familiarize yourself with where the bathrooms are along your route and when you get there; have a ‘go bag’ of foldable potty seat, wipes and spare clothes so you can pull over or go immediately upon arriving/leaving.

Our 2 1/2-year-old daughter has for the most part mastered potty training. I say that because we have stayed close to home ever since we started potty training about 1.5 weeks ago. She averages less than 1 to 2 accidents a day and usually those are because she doesn’t give herself enough time to make it onto the potty. We have taken short mini trips but nothing crazy. She legit has to go pee every 45 minutes to an hour (is this normal????) I really don’t want to have to use pull-ups, but this weekend, we are traveling to the beach and I fear because she will be out of her normal element, we may have more accidents. We also have a longer commute in the morning’s to and from preschool starting next week and I am trying to figure out the best option to prevent accidents in the car. We call her pull-ups “sleeping underwear” (as we use them for naps/and diapers for nighttime) and she seems to understand the difference between that and underwear. Would you just suck it up and use pull-ups until she becomes more confident with holding her bladder when she is in the car or when I’m in unfamiliar territory?? I guess I just want to make sure I’m not setting her up for possible regression by using them more often starting this weekend. I’d appreciate any tips or suggestions. (I think she’ll do fine at school b/c she readily has access to the potty and teachers to help so this is just for traveling or outings I can’t control the timing). Thanks!!!
