I potty trained my 3.5 year old boy and almost 2 year old girl at the same time. I just had them go together every couple hours. I have so many variations of toilets for little people. A potty seat and a little potty in every bathroom (3), a potty seat for each of them at daycare and a pottete in the car. When we're out we just all go together. It was hard the first few days but now they (weirdly) love going to the bathroom together. They even synchronized their poop times to go together! Like at daycare, it's a herd mentality so in some ways, training them together is easier IMO. Good luck!

@skipra: I figured that's what you meant! We have a half bath on the main floor. The kids are used to using the little potties, but I might try one on the regular toilet and one on a small one and see how that goes. That's so nice that G is potty trained! I know it will be a relief once A and B are, but I'm not expecting it to really happen too quickly. I actually think B will have an easier time because he asks to use the potty a lot now, whereas A doesn't like to stop playing to use it. I'm just thinking we will try it out coming up here soon as a first round and see what happens!

@twodoghouse: G is day trained which is a HUGE relief with #3 due in a few weeks! And I just read my response - I meant get a potty seat for your main level if there is no bathroom. Lol I don't think you need to do major renovations just to potty train. Good luck!

@twodoghouse: oh, my full intention is to leash them. Given that O learned to crawl, pull up, cruise and climb in one week, I don't doubt that they'll both start walking within a couple of months. Eek! Good luck with the potty training!

@Mrs. Turtle: Oh, just wait till they start running from you in opposite directions in public! The fun is just beginning!

@LovelyPlum: There are so many things that daycare employees seem to be able to do that I cannot. I seriously think they are all magicians because I can't imagine taking a whole class of 2 year olds to the bathroom or getting them to nap and eat simultaneously! I guess I feel like it's unfair to make them use the bathroom at the same time every time because what if they're just legitimately on different peeing schedules and I'm forcing their bodies to change just to match each other? That's probably an unfounded fear, but I've always felt like they are bad sleepers because I always forced them to be on the same schedule. I don't want to ruin their bladders too, haha.

@avivoca: Oh that's a really good idea! Our downstairs bath is small and when we're all in it with the little potties it feels like my head is going to explode. Doing a seat on the big toilet makes more sense. Thanks!

@skipra: Thanks, friend! Is G totally potty-trained already? If so, way to go! That's so awesome!

Mine did not potty train at the same time but they are close enough in age that I always had another young kid with me while training.
If you don't have a bathroom on the main floor I would recommend getting at least one. So much easier than running upstairs every single time. And let's be honest, they probably won't make it upstairs in time! I would probably start teaching them to take turns to make it easier for yourself when you are out with them. And when you do go out, handicap stalls or family bathrooms are key. It is no fun trying to squeeze all three of you in one stall!

I can't imagine training two at the same time, but you can do it! What about getting a stool and a potty seat for the toilet for your downstairs set-up? We are on one level and this is what we have (1.5 bathrooms and both are small). It got a lot easier for me when H could climb up herself and settle onto the potty. We keep the tiny potty in the car so she can go when we are out and about.

I don't know how relevant this is, but at G's daycare, pretty much the whole class potty trains in the 2 year old room. They have 2 potties, and 2 kids go at a time. I'd say it's totally reasonable to get A and B on a similar potty schedule if they each have their own.

As to the going out piece, we still feel tethered over here, because her "I have to go" sense is still touch and go. I find this part, the newly trained part, much harder than the training part, actually.

Good luck, lady.

I have no advice obviously, but I wanted to thank you for giving me another big milestone to dread. We aren't expecting to have these two at that age, but man, if we do...yikes. I'm going to follow this thread just in case. We are currently at two crawling/standing/falling and that is hard enough to manage, especially in public.

My twins (turned 2 in May) are showing so many readiness signs for potty training, but I'm intimidated by the logistics of potty training two little people at the same time!

If you've potty trained twins, or two children close in age at the same time, how did it go? Any tips specific to twins? We already have two potty seats that they've been using for about a year. Is it worth getting a second set for downstairs so I don't have to leave one kid alone downstairs while I take the other up to potty?

I guess that's one of the things I'm nervous about - did you always take them to the potty together, or do them separate? How do you rein in the chaos of two 2-year-olds in a confined space like a little bathroom?

Also, once they're getting the hang of it and we're back to our regular activities, how do you handle the logistics of two newly trained toddlers in public restrooms?
