@2PeasinaPod: Oh without a doubt! I don't want him to feel forced or scared to go to the bathroom. If it wasn't for my MIL willing to try, I would probably just wait even longer. But I'll deff give it a try. I know he'll dive in when he's ready but we'll see when that is. Maybe be now or maybe when he's 3+, either way is fine

@bubblegum: If he doesn't take to it right away, or starts protesting, definitely stop. We had pressure from everywhere to get DS potty trained before 3 and it bothered me so much. We knew when he revolted that he wasn't ready, and it honestly saved me so much stress when we waited. But we got comments from EVERYONE in my family except my SIL who knew how hard it was to train a boy. When we started again at 3 years, 3 months, I couldn't believe how easy it was. We'll do the same for DS2 when it comes time for him.

I think pull ups really held DS back. Once he figured out how he could go in them, they were essentially a diaper that was easier to get off. They were required by daycare though while he was training, so we were stuck. He still wears a pull at night though because he's not usually dry and sometimes poops in them. I'm happy waiting until he's ready, versus having a million accidents to clean in his bed. But it definitely makes progress slower. And sometimes he pees out of the pull up too, so there's a mess anyways.

@KT326: That's awesome!! See that's why I'm kinda hopeful that it happens now because MIL is so willing and when the new sitter comes along I'm not sure she'll be so willing.

That's great that it hasn't effected him during the day!! I always did hear boys are harder to train. Yay for us lol

@bubblegum: We had a few false starts starting around 27 months. We would try every few months but he wasn't interested in it until a few months after he turned 3. We didn't use any kind of method though. It took about a month before accidents were few and far between. But we also had an uncooperative daycare that would not allow him to wear underwear, only pull ups. It wasn't until we moved him to a new one that I think he completely got it.

For night time, he only gets up maybe once or twice a week to go. I'm not pushing it as our pediatrician says they need to be developmentally and physically ready. It has not affected his daytime training at all.

@KT326: Oh nice and when did you start with him I'm totally fine with pull ups I just don't want him to get use to it and not get up at night.

@2PeasinaPod: I will for sure ask his speech therapy for a sign for potty. That'll be a big help. MIL said he had an accident today, hated the fact that he was wet, went up to her and said "off". That was shocking!

DD will be here right before he turns three so if it goes south we'll for sure wait. I don't want him to be scared or forced. I have the 3 day method book!!! I have to actually read it though lol :silly:

Thank you!! Fingers crossed!

For night time, I would stick with diapers or pull ups until he is consistently waking up dry. Our pediatrician said it can take awhile for boys to night train. My son is 4.5 and still wears a pull up to bed because he does not wake up dry (despite sometimes going to the potty in the middle of the night).

For the car, you could always put a chucks pad down on the seat, or they make specific pads that can be placed on the seat in case of potty accidents. We always make sure DS uses the potty right before we go anywhere and that helped cut down on accidents.

When we potty trained, we went all or nothing, but DS was 3 years and 3 months. We tried around the same time you did...got him interested in the potty, but he revolted horribly one day so we stopped. Little brother came when he turned 3, so we waited a few more months and talked to him about how we were going to try again.

Can you try to see first if you can teach him a sign for potty? That way he can tell you without having to be verbal if he has to go?

We also used the 3 day method. We went nowhere for those 3 days and prompted LO to go every 40 minutes. He insisted on staying in underwear for his nap, and he stayed dry. I was incredibly surprised, but he's only ever had 2 night accidents, and he's 4 now. We had a few accidents over those 3 days, but he started to get the hang of it. I always know where the bathroom is when we go out somewhere...we would take him as soon as we got into a store and again before we left, and he really started getting the hang of telling us when he needed to.

Lots of luck to you!

Okay so I know I've posted about this before but we are officially potty training our son, who will be 2 and half this month. DS has little vocabulary (as in he doesn't form sentences) he is in therapy. He has shown signs of being ready, such as staying dry and taking off diaper if it is full.

MIL is taking on the challenge during the day but I need some tips from you ladies. I know some do only underwear, some do pull ups.

This is how a normal work week is, maybe it'll help on giving us tips. DS is woken up at about 6:50 diaper is always full. We then drive to MIL house, we arrive around 7:20. He will then be in the car with her and back to her house at about 9 the latest. Leaves the house again at 2:30 and back by 3:30. Then picked up at 5:30ish and get home at like 5:50. When he goes to bed he usually gets a sippy with milk, which we want to wean him off of.

My concern is all the traveling, so pull ups would be best but will it set him back? And night time, he usually comes to our bed and I don't want to clean pee from the mattress every night.

Thoughts?!
