We ordered both the potty seat and ring. When they arrived DS dragged the seat around sitting on it with pants on like a chair. Idk if he knew it was a potty. So I was like umm no I don't need him dragging pee around in that thing flipping it over and stuff. So we decided not to use it and only used the ring. And he did just fine with only the ring.

We put a stool in front of the toilet. When she was first starting, we helped her get onto the toilet. At the park I have held her hands while she peed. I just pray her stream doesn't go too far forward and get her pants. ;-)

We have seat that has a part that goes over the potty, so you can use it either way. D vastly prefers the separate potty seat.

I wasn't planning on using a separate potty but when we tried to put her on the ring she freaked out. Granted we didn't practice with her before potty training. Luckily she wasn't scared of the standalone potty so we worked our way up. We only used the standalone potty for a couple weeks so not too bad.

We used a seat reducer and a stool for my DD. She did fine with it. I hated the idea of cleaning a separate potty chair so never used one...when we're out - we just use the closest restroom and I line seat/hold onto her. She hasn't had any issues with it.

We bought the potty ring reducer for our house, but DS doesn't show any interest in going. I'm hoping to avoid using a separate potty, but if that's what it'll take to get him potty trained, then I will (ugh! lol).

We have both, she preferred the seat for awhile because she could do more if it herself. We also sat there for a long time some days, I imagine dangling her feet would have gotten uncomfortable.

I taught my daughter how to squat and pee outside. I have to take her bottoms all the way off.

I have a boy and we do have a seat that goes on top of the regular toilet, but I would imagine with a girl a seat reducer would be just fine... why would you want a portable seat anyway..?

With my boy he will not, in a million years, go #1 by a tree! There were multiple times we were stuck in a traffic jam our car was bearly moving and he would be screaming he needed to pee, I would turn into a small off road and said you can pee here by the bushes and he would cry and scream and demand to hold until he go home! HAHA. So if we were at a playground, we'd just run into a public bathroom? Believe it or not they are actually not that gross as I would have imagined before I had a child (I always avoided them myself until now). I think unless you are in the wilderness in Iceland, everywhere you go would somehow have some bathroom establishments. One thing we haven't yet braved are the porta-Johns. I went in with DS once and he just ran right back out (me too).

We used to have a portable / foldable potty seat, but it was bearly used. I believe we used it once or twice, and then we never used it. I just carry those sanitizer wipes and I wipe the seat really clean. I thought bringing a potty seat around is nastier than wiping it clean on the spot... because you have to fold that thing up and put it back into your purse. Eeek! Nowadays I don't even wipe the seat with sanitizer wipes .... I just use regular toilet paper to wipe the seat. Granted we only need to sit down for #2 though.

K really went though a phase of refusing to try the big potty. But my GF has this setup at her house bc her daughter refused to use a little potty. Every kid is so different. Now we use both interchangeably, but she can go to the potty using the little seat by herself - and likes to do so (independent).

For travel, playground, etc. I use the OXO Tot travel potty seat. We've also used it at home in a pinch - so it might be an option to avoid buying a little potty seat for the house.

On the playground you can just have a girl pull her pants all the way down then sit right on the grass with her legs straight out. It helps sometimes to prop her feet up on a biggish stick.

We bought a chair and it was never peed in! LO liked the big potty (without a ring) because it flushed like the little ones at school. So we just use the potty at the playground or any public restroom because she was already used to the big size ones.

LO wasn't coordinated enough to climb up on the potty or climb a stool when we started. I was pregnant and didn't want to lift her constantly (not that I enjoyed cleaning out the little potty). I think my LO was slower than most on climbing. I hope to go straight to the potty seat with LO2.

We have two rings (one for upstairs and one for downstairs) and never bought a potty seat. Never had any issues (and way less gross than cleaning the little potties). I'd probably get a portable potty for the playground or just make sure she goes right before you leave and don't stay too long.

We had both a ring for the toilet and a potty chair. DS actually preferred the ring with a little stool so he could climb on to the toilet unassisted. I ended up taking the potty chair to daycare for the first few weeks that he was trained (they asked for it), and he mostly used it there.

Experiences potty training with just the seat reducer for the big toilet, instead of a separate potty chair that can be moved around? We have the seat reducer things for both our toilets, and live in a small condo- we are always close to the bathroom, though currently the doors are kept closed or gated off (which obviously can be changed). I would prefer not to have to buy an extra little potty chair but I know some kids find them easier. Just wondering if people have gone without, or tried to and ended up buying them anyway?

Also where do girls pee when you are at the playground? My friends with boys just pee on a tree in the corner it seems. Did you get a little travel potty seat? Just run back home?
