@Mrs. Sunshine: in the beginning we went with pull ups and called them her "big girl underwear". It worked for her to not pee in them and it was a precaution for us if we couldn't get to a bathroom in time.

@Mrs. Sunshine: we were in the same situation with my 26 month old - she liked the idea of the potty, would sit and go pee successfully before bath and naps, would tell us when she was going, etc.... I wanted to be super relaxed about it too but thought she needed a final push from us. So this past week, I just announced we were putting all our diapers away and wearing undies all the time. It was exactly what she needed. We started day 1 in undies prompting her to go every 15 - 20 minutes until we got a better sense of how often she needed to go. By day 3, I was promoting her every 45 mins and by day 4, she was consistory telling me she needed to go and making her way over to the potty on her own. Our only small hurdle was poop - she was really nervous to go and was holding it. I had her go bottomless for a morning around the time she normally went and she basically ran back and forth to the potty for like an hour until she couldn't hold it anymore. Once she went that first time and figured out it wasn't scary, she's been fine with pooping too. We're about 10 days in (and maybe I'm speaking way too soon) but it went way easier than I couldn't have imagined. I think we've only had 5 accidents total - and none after day 4. She was just ready. We obviously still doing diapers for naps and overnight and wearing pull ups when we're outside the house. She's been keeping her pull ups dry when we're out so I'll slowly start using undies for outings too.

Sorry for the novel - good luck!

@My Only Sunshine: thanks!! I'll look up the Lucie's list guide. This sounds like something she would be receptive to, I hope I find it much less overwhelming than I'm imagining as well.

@Mrs. Sunshine: We just this weekend potty trained my 27 month old. We did a modified version of the Oh Crap Potty Training method. Look up the potty training guide on Lucie's List. That's what we relied on primarily. We did day one no bottoms at all (with towels all over the house). Potty timer every 30 minutes and we asked her to tell us if she felt like she needed to go. A little cookie after every success. Lots of fluids, grapes, Popsicles, so she'd have lots of attempts. Day two in the morning she was still bottomless. In the afternoon, we put her in pants commando. Timer every 45 minutes but she got better at telling us she had to go. Day three, undies and pants and no timer, but if it had been a while since she went, I did have her try. Pull-ups at nap and night, and for trips out of the house for now. We'll switch to undies for out of the house trips soon. The whole thing was less overwhelming than I thought it would be.

@regberadaisy: what did you do when you went out? Diapers still or did you switch to pull ups or training pants?

@Mrs. Sunshine: we did a very loose 3 day method. It took more like a week. But basically she was ready and showing me all the signs. But I think she needed a final push from us, all guns blazing to go that final step. So, imo, I would still let her lead but starting taking th reigns more. Let her go diaper free if possible, push water, take her to the potty very often. Be very excited when she goes in the potty, etc.

Be prepared for accidents and relapses. It was probably a few months before we went completely accident free.

My oldest daughter is nearly 28 months. We decided to start potty training because she kept asking me to change her diaper every single time she went, if I said she needed to wait she would lose her mind so I figured she was ready. I decided to take a slow and steady LO-lead approach due to her personality type. I let her go diaper free when she asks and go sit on the potty when she asks. We read potty books and we talk about using the potty when she gets upset about a dirty diaper. In the past 6 days she has successfully peed in the potty both times she's requested to go diaper free with no prompting from me at all. My question here is would you continue to let LO lead or would you take the reigns and push her more in the direction of using the potty? If you would add a little more guidance, how would you go about it? Potty training makes me feel so lost!
