@irene: ah, I see. What if you just did a trip to the playground or something outside for an hour? I don't mind letting my kid pee in the bushes (but I know not everyone is ok with that -- but it's really accepted here for boys and girls). The first couple of trips out I really talked up how he was a big boy wearing underwear and how I did not have any diapers with me, so if he had to go, he would have to tell me so we could find a toilet. It worked really well for us.

@lamariniere: No I still haven't figured out how to go out in public, and no we haven't worn the underwear outside of our home (he asked, but I explained that he needs to be going more consistently before we head outside with underwear)! It is more the fact that I am not ready for accidents outside, and I am scared of public toilets. I do not know how to take him to go there! Ahhh....

And one trip is all it needs! You need to give him more trust LOL! hugs mommy!

@irene: glad the potty training is working for you! The first few times we took DS out in underwear, I literally asked him every 10 min if he wanted to go. We were brunching with friends and I think we made 6 trips to the toilet in like 1.5 hours (only one trip was actually successful).

hmm... I voted for continue but that is actually not quite my vote... haha I would actually vote "Other".

I tried the "3 day potty training" thing too and it kicked my ass. Both my son (28 months back then) and I were in panic mode by 1.5 days and 4 accidents (on carpeted floor .... muahhhh) , and we stopped. I had no experience in potty training so I thought that was the way to go, but obviously there are many other ways! You don't have to train her in 3 days.

For us, it was after that 1.5 days and 4 accidents that we had a breakthrough. My son never asked to go to the potty before, he does now, it was a sharp turn! Elmo / cookie monster underwears also did the trick too. He requested to wear those underwear and I made it very clear to him that he can not pee / poo in the underwear or he knew the consequence. He had 1.5 accidents so far in the past month (he's now 30 months). I still haven't figured out how to go out and at daycare though (he still won't use the potty at all at daycare, I don't know why).

I would say if you feel like you need to stop, you should stop. Give it a break. Then go buy some really pretty underwear and started easing her in. Maybe let her pick an underwear to wear, say an hour a day and let her try to keep clean and dry? Then gradually increase the underwear time. Eventually she will get it, and you don't have to keep moping up pee...

Good luck to you!!

I would keep it up for a few days. If after maybe a week she doesn't seem to be getting it, take time off and retry in a month or so.

I have been told that if you give up after starting you can set them back a year or more.

I was planning to start training in September because we are going on vacation. I ordered a little potty in preparation and got it yesterday. DS saw it and decided we were starting last night. He is not very verbal but after being bottomless a few hours last night and all day today, he started sitting on the potty without prompting and both peeing and pooping in it. Quite the change from him pooping on the rug this morning and picking it up and carrying it to the toilet (I was in shower and had literally put him on the toilet 1 minute before the poop incident).

@chopsuey: I really hope I have the same success on day 2

@kiddosc: I'm not sure if she's completely ready but since DD is crazy stubborn, we've had to bribe her into doing into everything...even talking sigh

@sandy: thanks that gives me hope

We did the 3 day bottomless method and the first 2 days were basically accidents all day long - but we just made sure to catch her in the middle of pee/poo and put her on the potty to finish. I wanted to quit. We just kept talking about the process and celebrating when she got anything in the potty. Day 3 she was walking up to the potty and going herself for pee and poo. 100% success! So I'm glad I didn't quit even though the first 2 days were so unsuccessful. It's a learning process

I guess it would depend on if she's showing signs of readiness. Interest in the potty, staying dry for a couple hours at a time, able to pull her own pants down, showing signs of discomfort in a dirty diaper. My 27 month old is more than happy to sit in his poopy diapers and is just overall not showing interest in the potty. So we're waiting for now.

continue! the first day is always the hardest.
on our first day, I think we only had 1 pee in the potty right before bedtime. but on day 2 she was a pro and didn't have any accidents!
good luck!

I started potty training my 27 month old today. But so far it's not going well. To prepare for this milestone, we've had her watch Daniel Tiger "potty" episode and even knows the song. We also had her watch "Elmo time" , but she doesn't like that video. Today was day 1 and so far, she's had 8 pee accidents and only successfully peed 2 times. I've take her to the potty every 30 mins and most of the time she holds until I get her off the potty. She's a late talker so she has trouble with some words and don't know if that's the reason doesn't tell me she needs to potty. Would you continue with the potty training or do u think I should wait until she's more verbal
