I keep a 2-person 3-day grab and go kit in our front hall closet. I also keep long-burning candles, bottled water, flashlights, batteries, canned food and cash (hidden) on hand. My husband thinks I am nuts as we live in Manhattan, NYC - but I perfer to be prepared! He did think I went a bit overboard with the recent hurricane scare when I filled our bathtubs with water just in case! :)

We have an emergency kit by our front door. Right after the big earthquake up north here in Japan, we decided we should definitely get an emergency kit ready.

We're in Concord and have been lucky to not have any outtages, but I think we'll start keeping the flashlights closer by. Other than that, we should be okay. We have our cell phones, so communication won't be an issue, and we have a lot of prepackaged food if needed.

My family lives in that area too. A tree fell on my old car that my sis now uses!

I think we are pretty prepared. When we had Hurricane Irene hit here in August I learned all about emergency prep! I made a "go bag" and everything. If a blackout were to hit though, our apt building has a generator so we'd be okay for a bit!

We're in LA and ours went out yesterday for an hour, and our friends have been out for almost 24 hours now! It's a good reminder to get prepared for an emergency, we just had our scented candles and little tea lights out.

@Rosie Girl: The santa ana winds are super strong this year. The high recorded was 97 mph. scary!
I think we'd survive fine if we were to have a black out. It gets really cold here though, so I'd be concerned about my LO staying warm through the night.

Wow, why has it been out? I guess we are prepared.... ;) We do a lot of camping, so we have all of that stuff. It would just be like camping but sleeping in our own beds!

The power has been out at my parents' house in Arcadia since yesterday (So. Cal).

How prepared are you for a power outage? Do you have candles? Matches? Lighters? Canned goods? Portable gas burners?
