@swedishfish: I just wanted to reach out and say that I'm glad you're going in this week. I have a history of depression, so ppd scares me a lot. And everyone's normal is different, so don't let that dissuade you. Mine flared badly after my miscarriages, and even though I feel more at peace now, I'm still on Zoloft. There is no shame in asking for help!

Hang in there, Mama. Big hugs

@MamaMoose: @sslm: thanks for the support! I have my post partum check up this week so I will talk to the doctor then. My husband and mother do not think it's PPD though. They think it's just normal new mother emotions. I'm not sure what it is.

@betsyboop: @rahlyrah: @skibobrown: @sarac: @googly-eyes: thanks for sharing your experiences. I really appreciate it. I'm glad everyone seems to be doing much better now!

@swedishfish: Multitude but I focused on one at a time. What I really remember was that I wanted to run away. I wanted to give my baby up. :(

I had a brief period of ppd at 8 months when my daughter was sleeping just hideously. I knew it was happening when I would wake up in the morning and already feel just totally sick of the day. I would wake up feeling just totally irritated and unhappy and totally not looking forward to anything, at all. Thankfully her sleep improved and it soon passed.

I went to this website, and almost every point on this list described my symptoms to a T:
http://www.postpartumprogress.com/the-symptoms-of-postpartum-depression-anxiety-in-plain-mama-english
I felt like I was never going to feel better at that time, but I took part in a local PPD treatment program with other moms experiencing the same condition, and that helped immensely!

I was crying daily over breast feeding issues and could not let it go. I became obsessive about it and anything feeding related made me anxious. According to my doc, it was mild PPD so she put me on Zoloft.

I never felt detached from LO or unable to perform my parenting duties. I was just unraveling emotionally and couldn't stop it on my own.

I was having breakfast with some mommy friends and they were talking about their doctors visits for ppd. We all started sharing and I just broke down crying in the middle of the bagel shop. That night one of the girls sent me a link to a ppd symptom website, and almost every checkpoint reminded me of how I was feeling. I made an appointment with my ob/gyn and the treatment started there. If you think you might be experiencing ppd, please call your doctor! I was in a place where I thought nothing would help, but my friend begged me to see someone, and I am so glad i did.

ETA: There was one thing in my life that was causing me much stress and anxiety, so I was convinced that when this issue was resolved, my depression would go away. Also, my PPD was late (7-8 months post partum) in conjunction with weaning, so I thought it was too late to be considered PPD.

@swedishfish: I don't have any advice since I haven't really been there. But I wanted to reply to you. I think that if you even suspect you have PPD you should reach out to your doctor for guidance. Don't suffer in silence and don't be ashamed to get the help you need. Hang in there mama!!

What made you pause and realize you might be suffering from PPD? What was one symptom in particular or a multitude?
