I'm sorry :-( I don't have experience with PPD, but I do know that both times I weaned, I went through a several week emotional funk. I weaned both girls when I was good and ready, so I didn't have any additional issues compounding the matter, but I think the hormones adjusting can wreak havoc on emotions. I know I was quite snappy with everyone (more so than usual), and I just felt low in general for a little while. Things eventually evened out, but I'd say it was a good six weeks or so before I felt myself again (coincidentally, six weeks is about the length of my cycle, but not sure it's related).

I'd say it's definitely worth a chat with your counsellor and by all means ask to have your meds tweaked in the short term with the plan of slowly moving back down once you feel like you're in a better frame of mind,

Hugs to you, I hope things start getting better soon.

It's common for PPD to get worse or intensify when the hormone high from nursing ends. I was able to "limp along" and not treat my PPA until I fully weaned. When I fully weaned it was no longer manageable and I had to begin treating it.

I hope you start feeling better soon. It's good that you are cognizant that you aren't currently your "best" self.

I started seeing a counselor about 2 months ago. My daughter is 5.5 months old. My main issues have been around our nursing relationship not going as planned. Counseling has been helpful in working through my disappointment and I also began taking 50 mg Zoloft.

When weaning happened unexpectedly in the last week, I sort of hit an even lower point. I had hoped to keep am/pm nursing but with gradually weaning for the last month, my supply just didn't keep up with my expectations. I am incredibly irritable, picking fights with my husband constantly. I feel detached from him and like all I can focus on is being a mom. I'm increasingly harder on myself. I am still so disappointed with how nursing went for us. I am also SO tired of feeling sad about it.

Anyway, did this happen to anyone else? Feelings getting worse even with therapy/meds? I'm thinking its the actual ending of nursing that is doing it but maybe it's coupled with the overall post partum hormonal issues. I did read that gradual weaning as opposed to cold turkey weaning should safe guard against a big hormone drop. At any rate, I am considering having my medication tweaked.
