I'm sorry you're struggling @citymouse:! It's hard.

For me, I went to acupuncture for a few weeks and that somehow really helped calm me down. I'm not sure how lol

I also think the change of seasons and being able to get outside is helping. I'm not much of an outdoorsy type, but just getting to walk around the block or playing on the porch with DS is relaxing. I'm sure exercising would help me, but I just don't have the time :-(

My first few periods pp were horrific, but have since gone back to normal - I hope yours do too!!

@citymouse: yeah, I was hoping seeing my coworkers and getting back into a routine would help. Now I'm just super anxious about work too.

@MrsH: Ugh :-( Were you hoping that it would? Like, just getting out and doing something? Im so sorry it hasn't helped like you hoped! I am really hoping that my Dr can figure this out. It feels just like I did when I left the Psych unit--not good at all.

Returning to work certainly didn't help anything. :(

@citymouse: I got my period several weeks ago and it definitely messed with my hormones.

@rahlyrah: ugh, I've been having insomnia too, it is awful. I feel for you.

@googly-eyes: thank you for reply!! One of the hardest parts is how isolating it is. Its nice to know others out there are going through it/have gone through it too. What did you do for healing? I agree, I think its not talked about very much! One of the bloggers said she would give an update about 9 months ago, Im hoping she does soon!

@citymouse: @rahlyrah: @redsmarties: @MoonMoon: Just wanted to wish you all well. I am another one out of the woods now but I remember parts of it so vividly. My main concern is just hoping I am spared the next time around as we are beginning ttc again. Anyway just wanted to say that you aren't alone and wish you all brighter days ahead! Glad to see there is still some sort of support thread going. I do feel like this issue gets sort of swept under the rug, even on hellobee. Hang in there ladies! <3

@redsmarties: bummer!! So sorry the past few days have been stressful. Are you back to taking meds? Did your Dr ever change anything due to your cycle?

@MoonMoon: definitely agree about the changing seasons. Its been so nice to be able to go out for a walk!! Yes, the thoughts are dibilitating. Its so black and white. WhenIm good, Im good! Like, I could totally have another baby one day! But, when Im bad...its like the world is ending and I will never EVER feel normal again.

@Elderberrygin: thank you for your response and encouragement!! Were your subsequent periods rough as well? Or just the first one?

LO is 14 months old now, and I've been out of the woods for a while with PPD/PPA but wanted to drop by and wish everyone the best in their recovery. It really does get better!

@citymouse I had mini relapses when I had my period for the first time and when I weaned. It totally sucked. The only positive was that when I got really anxious and depressed again post-weaning I was finally able to realize that it really wasn't my fault, my brain just doesn't respond well to all the hormonal changes related to having a baby.

For me, the changing of the seasons is helping a lot, since my stuff is definitely tied to seasonal affective disorder. I'm trying to get myself and LO out of the house as much as possible, it's boosting both of our spirits!

I hope your anxiety is fleeting, I know how hard those dark thoughts can be, because I've been there. Hugs!

I was doing really well until a few days ago when a couple of situations came up. I forgot a few days of meds, and also had a high-stress few days...so I've been struggling this weekend. @rahlyrah: I've seen that tactic before - totally forgot about it though. I might need to check it out again.
@citymouse: My cycle TOTALLY screws with my anxiety and depression (mostly the depression).

@rahlyrah: that doesnt sound silly at all!! I will definitely try that. Im afraid to wean off of meds too. Even though I dont want to be on meds, I know they help me! How long have you been taking it?

@meredithNYC: thanks for writing and for the encouragement!! Yeah, I figured it had something to do w it. Ugh. Hopefully it will level back out! I called my Dr three times yesterday bc they close early, and no response. :-( Glad you are out of the woods!

My LO is nearly 2 now, so I've been out of the woods in terms of PPD for a while now, but... I totally and fully remember how awful and all-consuming it is. So I just wanted to wish you luck and good health and happiness :)

As for your question, I'm no doctor, but I do think it's possible that your period is wreaking havoc hormonally. But still - it's worth checking in with your psychiatrist for peace of mind.

I've been doing well since I started Zoloft and Xanax before bed. However, I started weaning off the Xanax this week. I'm coming off slowly but I'm so scared my PPA insomnia issues will return when I go completely off. DS is 10 months old and this is the best I've felt his entire life (minus the nausea from the Zoloft).

I'm sorry your struggling! When I'm having negative thoughts I use a method I learned in cognitive therapy.

1. Write down your negative thought (in the moment)
2. Identify the associated feeling (anxious, scared, sad, etc)
3. On a scale to 1-10, how severe is that feeling
4. Then, write down a positive statement, pretend you were giving advice to your best friend/mom/sister/etc.
5. How believable is your statement?
6. Now, assign a number to your feeling

I know it sounds silly, but it does help to write it down before the negative thoughts start spiraling .

Thought it was time for another check in! How is everyone doing these days?

I have been doing much better, although the past few days I have been having increased anxiety and fighting negative thoughts. I just started my first PP period so I am wondering if they are linked? Wondering if I should call my Pyschiatrist today or just wait a few more days and see how it goes...
