I had one, and at it I found out that I was severely anemic. Fixing that changed my life. Glad I did it!

@Becksabee: I just recently had a preconception visit because, if I recall correctly, I read on the Bee that I should! I incorporated the visit into my annual well woman exam. My ob/gyn ordered a blood test to check for various pregnancy related things as well as a pelvic ultrasound. Everything came back normal. She also prescribed a super expensive prenatal vitamin that I am not sure I am going to purchase. (I'm cheap about some things and feel/hope a regular Costco vitamin would suffice. Advice on this issue would be appreciated!!) But I would think if you have already been pregnant before, a preconception visit might not be necessary. My insurance copay was $40 for that visit so I didn't care too much. I love utilitzing my insurance any way I can and tend to choose such services where they are available.

Best of luck with baby #2!

I had a pre-conception visit a few weeks ago (we're waiting to TTC). My concern was primarily that I have an umbilical hernia that could rupture with pregnancy, but it was also a valuable visit as I learnt I was behind on MMR and TDAP (hence the waiting to TTC status  ).

I did, but I didn't necessarily schedule it as such. I was due for my annual, had just moved, and had been TTC without results. So I scheduled my annual, met the new doc, and told her our history since my last appt. We discussed things I should be doing and she put me on metformin (I had been on in the past and really should have been on then). We discussed a 3 month plan and when I should come back in if we didn't conceive. Well I got knocked up a few weeks later so it didn't come to that!

I think just making an annual appointment and discussing it with them would be the best option!

I called my OBGYN to make a preconception appointment and they were confused as to why I wanted to come in. ??? So I just got a normal physical at my PCP including routine blood work. Even the PCP was like, "So you don't have symptoms of anything? You're just here for a check up?" I mean, do people NOT go to the doctor anymore unless they're ill?! So weird.

I checked in with my Dr before going off the pill. We went over the meds I was on and she advised starting pre-natals and to switch from Motrin to Tylenol whenever I needed a pain killer (but Loradadine for allergies was okay to keep taking). But other than that she just said to call back when we got pregnant.

I only saw my doctor before we started NTNP with #1 because 2 months before we started I had my annual. I just asked about going off my BC. he told me when I should stop and to take prenantals and to call when I was pregnant.
with #2, it was a surprise, so no.

I only had one because we wanted clearance from my ob to TTC. I had two previous rough pregnancies and a miscarriage so we wanted to make sure she medically advised it safe.

I told my Dr. a couple off months before we went of The Pill (NTNP) and she told me to start prenatals and gave me the Tdap shot.

I asked at my annual last August and my doctor basically said to take prenatals and come back to see her when I'm pregnant, LOL!

I asked about it at my annual, just basics like vitamins and anything I needed to be aware of, plus advice on going off the pill, which happened about a year before we started. When my next annual came up, I switched to the midwife practice I wanted to use for prenatal care anyway and asked a little more about things to watch out for, and the process once I got pregnant, so I wasn't surprised when they didn't want me to come in for 8 weeks. I ended up getting pregnant days after that visit :)

Well, I should be good then. I've been taking my prenatal since I became pregnant the first time, never switched to a regular multi-vitamin.

I didn't have one. I asked questions at my annual nine months before we got pregnant. They basically told me to take prenatals and said I was healthy.

Has anyone had a pre-conception doctor visit before TTC? Just wondering because one first baby was unplanned, so of course I didn't see my OB until after the fact. I'm just curious if I should have one this time around.
