I think the crunchiness could be due to line drying. My inserts were always stiff/crunchy after that, but roughing them up a bit with my hands softened them right up.

It could be hard water. I'd strip them and see how they feel then. Pilling is normal. I don't use microfiber, so I can't speak to crunchiness.

I would strip any pre-owned CDs before use. You never know what wash routine they were using. I highly recommend posting in the Facebook group Fluff Love CD & Diaper Science too - the admins will check on your specific washing machine and detergent and tell you the washing routine to follow to prevent buildup. You don't want to set yourself up for rashes in a few months.

Yup. We used CB's a bit, and they all got pilly. My inserts, however, didn't get too crunchy. A little bit is to be expected though.

Coincidentally, I just traded my boy prints to someone else for girl prints. Hers were SUPER soft and felt brand new (they aren't). She said she specifically only used CB detergent (I didn't). So....maybe that's worth a shot?

I'm not specifically familiar with the CB diapers, but, yeah, that sounds like normal wear and tear. The fleece liners I use pilled up a bit after two or so months of washing, and my diaper inserts got a lot less soft and fluffy after washing in hard water for a few months, even using a recommended detergent (Tide). I'd try stripping the inserts. I use RLR do to this, and it does improve the softness and remove mineral buildup from hard water, but my diapers are not like-new after an RLR strip.

CD newbie here. We started out with a few different kinds, and have decided that Charlie Banana's are our favorite. So I've purchased several brand new, and then I purchased a lot of 12 pre-owned off of ebay. The seller stated that they were used in a large rotation for 6 months, and were selling because they preferred AIO.
I've received them, they look and smell fine. However they are not soft like the brand new CBs. The fleece is sort of pilly and the inserts are sort of 'crunchy' (like when a pre-fold is line-dried).
So my question is: is this normal wear and tear? Will all of my CB's look/feel like this in 6 months?
and is there a way to make them softer again?

Thanks for any and all input!
