@Mae: You make a very good point. At the end of the day the only really important thing is that we do whatever it takes to have a healthy mom and baby at the end of the delivery!

@BabyBruins: I hope you are able to have your vbac! But, as you say, keeping everyone safe is the most important thing!

@Trailmix: How far along were you?

@blackbird: Thanks! I know you are right. At this point I am just anxious to meet my baby girl!

@GreenThumb: You know what's funny? I have always suspected that our June Bug would come early... I just didn't expect for it to be this way!

@Mrs. Jacks: The research I have done since we came home has convinced me that induction is probably the best thing we can do at this point. I certainly appreciate caution when my and my daughter's health is at stake! My husband spent yesterday cleaning the house for me, and I had to settle for re-packing our birth bag and diaper bag. Thankfully we already have everything set up for her arrival! I do wish I had more to do than just watch movies, though...

At 36 wks I developed PIH and at delivery I developed pre-e. I think they are really cautious and will take great care of you. The most frustrating thing is having the nesting instinct but not being able to operationalize your desires. At least you are near term!

@mrsrain: I was sort of pre-pre-e with gestational hypertension, low platelets and vision problems starting at about 37 weeks (also out of nowhere). They monitored us for a week but after two trips to L& D triage we were told we would be induced at 38 weeks. The induction was just fine but I did end up asking for an epi about 8 hours after everything started. We had LO about 2 hours later. Wishing you the best!! I know it can be hard to wrap your mind around early induction when you weren't expecting it but your LO must be ready to arrive!! :goodluck:

@mrsrain: I got put on bed rest at 33w6d for high blood pressure but my blood and urine came back okay. I had my first son at he same point (33w6d) also bc of pre-e/HELLP. I hd to have an emergency c-section with my first and I'm trying to do a VBAC with this one. After 2 weeks my doc was happy with my blood pressures and allowed me 1 mild outing a day. At this point (36w5d), if my blood pressure goes up or if it would necessitate medication, thy will just try to deliver me.
I have limited induction options bc of my previous section so I'm starting some of the old wives' tales to "get ready" - pineapple, papaya, sex, acupuncture, red raspberry leaf tea. I don't think I'll go into labor if I'm not ready, but I think that I can make my uterus nice and favorable for induction.
I know it's not the birth you imagined (my c-section 6 weeks early wasnt) but a healthy baby and mom is what is important.

I'm sorry :( I can't fully relate because I didn't have pre-e, but after having midwives and planning on a natural childbirth, I did end up with an emergency induction due to high bp at 41w1d, and that meant I had to be hooked to monitors and couldn't labor out of bed really and basically my labor/delivery was the exact opposite of what I was hoping for (induction, epi, c section). But the thing is--- it honestly sort of doesn't matter. I'm only 5 days out from my induction and I already don't care. My LO is here and safe. I'm fine. My recovery from c-section has been not bad at ALL (actually sorta grateful that I am not having to deal with all the normal postpartum healing). I'm just so happy that it's all done and she's here and healthy and I'm healthy that I find the "how" is no longer important to me. I hope that if the worst happens and you are induced (and hopefully that won't even be the case!) you find the same to be true. No matter what happens, if you get a healthy baby at the end it's all okay.

@rachiecakes: Ugh, I can't imagine having to go through all those L&D checkups! :bummed: I'm hoping that my Bishop's Score will be high enough if it comes down to it, to make it an easier delivery. I don't know whether I am dilated or effaced at all, but I do know that baby is at +2 station (and has been for about a week).

I think I would rather be induced this week and just have it done with, as opposed to going through the cycle of waiting and checkups and waiting and more checkups, and still ending up with an induction later on... but of course, every day that baby is inside is better for her, so I guess this is one of those times to just wait and see!

@mrsrain: that's what happened to me :( Nothing worked to bring down my blood pressure except lying on my left side, so for three weeks, that's all I did. I had bi-weekly check ups, NSTs and BPP ultrasounds (I actually loved seeing his little face twice a week). 4/5 times I would get sent to L&D to check-in because something wasn't right in the check ups.
I was induced at 40w1d. They induced me with Cervidil but my water broke overnight and labor started immediately afterwards so that's all I needed to get things going. DS was in a terrible position (posterior and at first, brow presentation) and got stuck, so I did get an epidural to relax my body so they could try to turn him manually. With the help of a vacuum he was born a little over 24 hours after checking in to be induced. And I was barely dilated, baby was still up high, etc.
Wasn't ideal, but not too bad either. :)
The worst was the bed rest and getting sent to L&D over and over. I kept thinking something was terribly wrong and getting scared. (My fault, the doctors/nurses always assured me that I'd be fine.)
You're so close! :goodluck:

I'm so sorry! If I were in your shoes, I would be getting some magnesium spray ASAP as well as Epsom salts for baths. It's a safe way to bring your blood pressure down naturally.

@mrsrain: I don't think it was too much different, but the pain was higher. So if you wanted a natural birth, take that into account. I did end up having him med-free (well, obviously had pitocin) but it was the hardest thing I've ever done and not gonna lie, I kinda wanted to die. My mom kept telling me it was okay to use pain medication, but I was pretty in the zone. It's something to keep in mind. If your hospital allows food, I liked having real fruit popsicles because I got so hot during labor.
I also had to stay a little longer because I had to be on the magnesium sulfate 24 hours post labor, and then another 24 hours to make sure my BP didn't spike again. The mag sulfate really makes you out of it - I hated that I don't remember and couldn't enjoy the first 24 hours of my son's life. So be prepared for that - of course some people aren't as affected by it, but it made it so I couldn't focus on anything.

Thank you all for the support! I am feeling a little better about things right now, and I know that just because it's not what we had hoped for doesn't mean we can't still have a meaningful birth. Regardless of what happens, at the end of this I will have my sweet daughter safe in my arms!

@Mrs. Pen: Is there anything we should consider packing for an induction that you might not pack for a "regular" birth?

First of all, I know how staggering this diagnosis can be so just breathe, relax and take good care of yourself! Everything will be just fine

I had symptoms of pre-e which resulted in hospitalization around 23 weeks. I was sent home at 24 weeks on bed rest and had twice weekly doctor appointments, weekly nst's and 24 urine collections almost weekly until I was hospitalized again at 33 weeks and delivered at 34 weeks! DS was 4 lbs and spent some time in the NICU but is a completely healthy 1 year old!! I had an emergency csection so I can't speak to the induction process, sorry!!

Its great that you have made it so far! Don't let this get you down or ruin this wonderful experience in your life. It might not be what you expected but much of life is full of surprises and twists and turns. Good luck and please let me know if you have any questions or need support!! Xoxo

Sorry to hear this!! I went through the exact same thing - found pre-e at my 38 wk appt, did the 24-hour urine test and protein count was so high I had to go in for immediate induction. Thankfully I was already at 4cm and had classic labor signs, so I was deemed ready. I hope for your sake you won't have to go through it - but it you do, it means meeting your sweet baby sooner :) There are a few more complications we dealt with as a result, but overall, everyone was healthy, safe and well! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My mom was diagnosed with pre e at 37 weeks with my brother and sent directly across the street to the hospital for an induction. It was a long process for her (36 hours of labor so she did eventually get pain meds). She and my brother both had to stay in the hospital a little longer than normal to be monitored but in the end everyone was healthy and safe. Good luck!

Aside from some severe morning sickness early on, I have had a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy. Until yesterday.

I woke up yesterday morning (my birthday, btw) with a pain near my belly button. When I called the midwives they told me to come in to be checked. After a checkup at the birth center I was sent to the hospital across the street for further assessment. They hooked me up for a NST and regular blood pressure checks. They also took blood and urine samples to check.

The result: preeclampsia. They sent me home for partial bed rest and the supplies to do a 24 hour urine collection. I have a follow-up appointment on Monday. If anything changes for the worse, anything at all, I will be having an induction birth in the hospital. I have to go in for twice a week check-ups from here on out (I am currently 37 weeks) and have been told to be prepared every time to be checked in to the hospital for an induction.

The hospital is a good one, the staff is great, and I would still be giving birth with the midwives, but it's just not what we had hoped for (we had planned/hoped for a natural birth center birth)! Still, I know that the most important thing is that baby is healthy (which she is at the moment) and that I don't develop more severe complications.

I am still just kind of reeling with this unexpected change. I would love to hear encouragement from anyone who has been here! I would also love to hear about anyone who has managed an induction without an epidural...
