I have a feeling your insurance will probably cover rental of hospital grade pump!

I rented the pump both pregnancies. So worth it! My son was born at 34 weeks. Daughter at 37 weeks. So DD not preemie.

I rented a pump with DS1 (not my preemie) and I loved it! I ended up EP and really wanted to keep it the whole time but it was cost prohibitive.

I didn't rent either one with DS2 (35 weeker) I pumped with the hospital grade pump when I would see him at the hospital and my regular Medela pump at home.

I rented the Medela Symphony. It's an amazing pump! They will have ones for you to use in the NICU, and I tried the free one at home and hated it (the Lactina) so I rented the Dymphony from another hospital. I did not get a scale and I think they can cause a lot of stress. My nurses recommended against it. I was steady going back to the hospital once a week for check ups anyway.

I didn't have a preemie but I felt like I had much better suction with my Medela Freestyle than with the hospital grade Ameda they brought me to use before I was discharged.

No to either. I might rent a pump next time but definitely not a scale. I would have driven myself crazy weighing my DS all the time! We also had a visiting nurse come to our house a few times the first couple weeks home and she weighed him then.

My OB said I absolutely needed a hospital pump, and because of her referral it was covered via insurance. No scale, but we had a few nurse visits after he got discharged and she brought a scale then.

Okay so I did not have preemies, but I used a hospital grade pump with lo1, and a scale for lo2. Both well worth it! rented the pump, bought the scale.

I heard hospital pumps are stronger suction than the non-hospital versions. Also, the hospital scales are more accurate than the ones you can buy at the store.

When you had a preemie, did you rent both? or one? or neither?
