I don't have a preemie but our LOs due dates are close, and what you are describing unfortunately is really typical for the age, I'm learning. (As I sit up with my LO right now!)

Sorry I dropped out of the thread! I just have my hands full! I really appreciate the advice.

I think I'm going to try and hold off on sleep training until after the move. I took W to the doctor for his 4 month well baby checkup on Friday and found out he hasn't gained very much since his 2 month well baby. I'm trying to up my supply and feed him more. His sleep has improved already, so I'm hoping things continue to improve. I have an Ergo and a maya wrap. I like both and am trying to use them more. DS is at that weird stage where he's more alert and wants to look around but is still so small that he needs the infant insert. He usually tolerates it really well though.

@Sweet T: my little guy was born 33w6d and I held him for all of his naps until we did sleep training at 23 weeks actual, 17 weeks adjusted. Maybe about 4 weeks before sleep training, I could get him to sleep in his crib for 45 minutes at a time, but that was after rocking and bouncing and holding for 45 minutes first, which I can't imagine is possible with your toddler.
For night sleep, the dream feed worked really well for us. We did a feeding around 6-6:30pm and then another at 10:00pm when he hadn't woke up on his own. We would gently pick him up, feed him and put him right back down. He would get up on his own around 2:30-3:30am and then up for the day at 6:00. He finally dropped the middle of the night feeding on his own around 4.5 months actual, but we kept the dream feed until at least 9 months (probably longer than we needed, but it was working for us).
Good luck! You might need to try some sleep training after you move. Can you wear him for naps until then?

Do you have a moby? When DS2 was home he always slept great when I was wearing him, and then I was hands free for DS1. Hang in there momma!

@Sweet T: oh, I sympathize! Honestly, I might try sleep training and see how it goes. Even if it all gets undone when you move, re-training is never as bad the second time around. The kinda remember and just need a little nudge to get back in the swing of their routine.

Sorry you're not getting much sleep, if anything, I reeeeeally understand what you're going through!

@petunia354: he does have a crib. I've tried laying him down awake and asleep and he always ends up screaming. He goes from 0 to 60 in no time. I never had to sleep train DS1. He had colic, but once we got over that, his sleep was good. This is just so different for me.

Owen was born at 34 weeks and honestly, I can't even remember his daytime sleep because we were SO SLEEP DEPRIVED for the longest time!!!! I do remember that he was needing to eat every 3 hours, although it was more like every 1.5 or 2 hours at that time. It is brutal, I totally sympathize.

As for sleep training....I'd try and stick it out for the next month until you move. Like you said, you are going to be going through a huge transition and it will probably all get undone. We never sleep trained because DH was against it so we just let O figure out his sleep on his own and now at 13 months we are finally only having 1 wake up per night. I know with a 2 year old at home though that you probably would love to get more sleep!!

Can you try putting him down for naps and just letting him fuss for a while to see what happens? Or will he just flat out scream? Does he have a crib/quiet place where you can put him down for naps? For us, it wasn't until I went back to work and my mom started watching him that he really stayed to take scheduled naps. She would put him down 2x day and slowly he started adjusting to sleeping at those times....

I'm sorry I'm not much help!! Hugs!!

(This will probably be a little all over the place. Sorry in advance! I'm so overwhelmed!)

My 33 weeker's sleep is atrocious. He is 20 weeks actual, 13 weeks adjusted. He won't nap during the day unless he's being held. He's EBF. He are every 3 hours in the NICU but he's been eating every two hours since we weaned off of regular bottle feedings (around 6-8 weeks old, I think). Now that he's getting older, he's awake more (which is great developmentally) but I feel like the short timespan between feedings is preventing him from really sleeping well overall. We've been cobedding since we dropped regular bottles too because our lactation consultant really recommended it.

I'm just exhausted. He cries all the time and never sleeps and he's still eating all the time. He had been at least sleeping well at night with only one or two wake ups between midnight and wake up but now we're back to waking every two hours at night too.

I guess I need advice. We'll be moving back to Hawaii soon and I don't want to cobed with my husband in the bed too. I'm just not comfortable with it. I'm worried about trying to sleep train since we're moving and it'll all be undone in a month. How do I get him to sleep? Or at least nap? How do I get him to space out feedings? I also have two year old to take into account.

Help please! :(
