DD is still too small for preemie clothes, but we've been given onesies/outfits from Target and Walmart in the store. They have a very limited selection (like 2 different sets of onesies) but that might be all you need. I've also been looking at Carters online but it will be awhile before we need anything so I haven't purchased any yet.

I didn have a preemie but I had this experience with newborn sizes, because LO was smaller than anticipated (barely over 7 lbs.) My advice would be to buy them. I got sick of the baggy clothes and bought LO newborn sizes and she ended up stayin in them 6-8 weeks. I doubt it'll be that long for preemie stuff but I love looking back at newborn pics in clothes that fit LO, silly as that may be!

My baby weighed 3lbs 9oz and was only in preemie clothes for maybe a month. I would stick with NB size...they grow SO fast!

M was 5lbs 4oz and we went straight to NB. She wore little t-shirts from the hospital and blankets at the beginning and then NB sleep & plays pretty soon. Congratulations!

I think it depends on length + weight. J was 6lbs 4oz and dropped down to 6 lbs, and he fit into preemie for a while because he was 18 in and his head and body were out of proportion. We actually had to switch from NB to preemie diapers for a while, too.

Hmm sounds like I might just skip. We don't have a carters or a bru here do by the time anything shipped he probably wouldn't get much use out of it.

I did not have a preemie, but C was in between NB and 0-3 stuff for a while and I noticed that since Gerber onesies run really small, the 0-3 Gerber onesies fit her while the Carters ones were still too big. So you could try getting a pack of Gerber NB and they would probably fit until the regular NB stuff fits.

We had a few premie sizes because my smaller twin was swimming in newborn sizes. I bought a few Onsies and sleepers and pants. The rest I bought new born sizes and they fit them in a week or two.

Lo was born early too at 5lbs 13 oz at birth and my mil bought us a few premie footed sleepers but they didn't work for us lengthwise-- lo was too tall (19 in). Carter's nb sizes worked best for us! Especially the side snap t shirts-- we had her in those and diapers most of the time, inside summer infant nb sleep sacks. She's just growing out of them now at 11 weeks

If you do decide to buy a couple of preemie outfits, there are some clearance outfit sets on Carter's right now (2 onesies and pant sets). I've been looking bc we may end up have a small baby.

I didnt have preemies, but I did have two small babies. Blake was 4 lb 15 oz and was swimming in NB. We got him a few preemie things (whatever my parents could find locally at Babies R Us, Target and Bergners) but he was long (19 in) so he outgrew the preemie things in length very quickly. Alice was 5 lb 15 oz and we had her in NB from the start. The sleeves and pants were long for her for a few weeks, but she fit NB pretty well. I'm guessing at 6 lb you wouldn't get much use of preemie clothes, but might depend on the proportions of your LO too.

Carters has some preemie stuff that we used. E was 5 lbs. 15 oz. and 18 1/2 inches. He could wear the onsies for a while, but he outgrew the sleepers length wise really quickly (within 2-3 weeks). F was only 4 lbs. 4 oz. and 17 inches, and he wore preemie clothes for probably at least 2 months. That might give a little perspective for whether it's worth it. Even with E, I thought it was nice to have some onsies so he wasn't swimming in everything, but if I had only had him, I wouldn't have wanted many things. If you want to just grab some cheap onsies, I've noticed a lot of consignment stores have a small preemie section.

It took DD about three weeks before preemie stuff didn't fit- we brought her home at 4.5lbs, even though she was born full term. I got some sleepers and onesies, about 1 pack each. ETA- I got them at BRU.

My LO was born at 34 weeks and weighed 4lbs 8 ozs. He wore preemie for about a month. Your LO sounds pretty big for a preemie, I would go with NB clothes.

@jedeve: Congrats!! My LO was 6 lbs 2 oz and she fit into newborn size just fine - and really only for a few weeks. We thought about preemie stuff, but it is REALLY small!! Also, Target and Carters actually sell preemie stuff in the stores.

there are stores online that sell preemie clothes. we bought some preemie carters onesies that you can get on amazon. they grow sooooo fast i would only buy one set of onesies if you're going to buy something. olive was 4 lbs 15 oz and did fit into the preemie onesies for a while, but she also quickly fit into nb sizes.

LO was born at 36 weeks and weighed 6lbs. Wondering if we should buy him some preemie sleepers or just make do with the nb stuff. Will it be a waste if I got a few preemie things? Where would I even find them?
