@MarieJ: We waited until 4 months and I think that's a good idea. That way your LO has had their shots and immune system has matured more. It was so scary putting my LO in daycare, but I had to go back to work. Now, he loves going to daycare and all the people there. My only issue with daycare is that he's having issues napping but we are working on that.

@littlek: she's good & she is putting on weight, but the pediatrician is more concerned about her being more prone to have a respiratory infection because of something she caught at daycare. That's good that your LO only caught colds & was fine. It reassures me :) DH & I have come up with a plan where I won't go back to work until the first week of march, putting her really close to being 4 months old & the end of winter when she starts daycare.

@MarieJ: our pediatrician never said anything about keepin our LO out of daycare. How is your LO doing? Is she putting on a lot of weight? Our LO is growing so fast you would have no idea he was a preemie.

@MarieJ: He's still in the NICU now...I've been on medical leave since the end of September, but it's about to end. I'm a teacher and might have to work the very end of the school year to keep my benefits. The plan is to go back in the Fall, but we'll see! We will get a nanny.

@autumnlove: That's great to know and very reassuring! Did your LO start in the winter or summer? Did he get sick & was it bad?
@Mrs Green Grass: wow! I'm glad your LO is doing well! Will you be a SAHM? Keeping her out of daycare at least until winter is over will make me worry less. We're going to figure it out and make it doable.
@MungBean: hmm, I didn't know that existed. Thanks for that info and the post! I will look into that further.

@MarieJ: a nanny share is when one person nannies for more than 1 family. Here's a post on nanny sharing by Mrs. Hopscotch: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/07/06/the-nanny-share/.

My 25 weeker will have to stay out of daycare for 2 years! I would be so stressed about worrying about LO getting sick that I would probably rather be stressed about money. So decide which route will worry you less...

If possible, I would try to stay home the next 8 weeks, even if finances were really tight (unless, of course, it was completely impossible). Or, as @Bluebonnet suggests, how about a nanny share? Do you have any family close by that might be able to help?

@MarieJ: I think that if you need to take the 8 weeks off and can do it financially, even if it means being really tight (but that it is still doable), you should go that route. It sounds like you will feel much more comfortable that way.

@regberadaisy: I'm sure I'll have water works. :(
@littlek: it makes me so nervous because our pediatrician really recommends that she stays out of daycare until the end of winter.
@Foodnerd81: I'm tempted to stay off an extra 8 weeks & just be super tight financially.

I guess I have some decisions to make.

I haven't dealt with this, but I'm sure I would be just as worried as you. Is there any way you can take an extra 2 weeks, unpaid? Even that might make you feel more comfortable since most babies seem to start around 12 weeks? Or do you have anyone who might be able to stay with her for a week or two? When my sister went back to work, I took a week off from work and went down and babysat-- I loved the extra bonding with my nephew, and she was able to put off starting with a nanny. It is a lot to ask of someone who doesn't volunteer, though.

Brennan is a preemie, he was born 6 weeks early. He started daycare at 4 months. We weren't able to get the RSV shot because our insurance denied it. He has gotten colds since being at daycare but nothing terrible, really just congestion.

M wasn't a premie but she did start daycare around the 10 wk mark as well. It was super hard. I cried a few times and felt like the worst parent in this universe.

But it gets better. She was so fussy at day care for months but now she loves playing with her friends and is so happy.

Has anyone with a preemie had to send your LO to daycare earlier than you'd like? DD was born 5 weeks early & I am off until January 22. That puts her right at 10 weeks old going to daycare. Granted she was a late preemie & it's a home daycare, but I'm still feeling major guilt all the way around about this! We need my income, but I feel like I'm being a horrible parent sending her anywhere this early. Has anyone every gone through a situation like this or similar? The pediatrician wrote me a note for my job stating that they would like to at least keep her our of daycare until the end of winter...I thought that would buy me some more STD, but it didn't. It only protects my job for 8 more weeks, unpaid.

She's had two RSV shots, but that doesn't make me anymore confident sending her :( I looked into the nanny route, but those prices are crazy expensive!
