Nothing really worked for me. Benzoyl peroxide helped a little-just put it on in the morning after you've dressed and nothing will stain.

I have dry skin and most acne stuff makes my acne worse. So I started just putting some Neosporin or polysporin on my zits (usually after washing my face) and it heals them right up.

I'll use a little salycylic acid when it gets bad. My SIL made me a peppermint sugar scrub that is amazing! You can google the recipe easily. It smells great, makes your skin super soft and always clears my skin up right away better than any OTC product. For regular soap I use cerave.

I got a Burt's Bees tea tree oil spot treatment thing and I don't think it helped at all. I was also too paranoid to use salysil in acid.

I am battling this too so following for the great ideas.

What has been working best for me is washing every night with my Clarisonic and using night cream. I had it mostly cleared but changed my tinted moisturizer and now getting pimples again. So pay attention to what you wear all day too! I think primers can help keep makeup out of the pores.

@PinkElephant: I put a couple drops in about a 1/2 a tablespoon size of coconut oil! So it does dilute it a little but I have put it on my skin just normally sometimes. Doesn't really irritate it but I just love me some coconut oil!!

@PinkElephant: if you're looking for a good tea tree oil product (that you don't have to mix/dilute), I started using this toner from The Body Shop and am really liking it so far.

I pair with a benzoyl peroxide face wash (I hear ya about the bleaching though!) that has less than 4% BP per my dermatologist. Combined they seem to be doing a pretty good job - my pregnancy acne was getting pretty bad there for a while!

I use benzoyl peroxide and the bleaching factor is annoying. Although I've noticed if I use it sparingly it's not bad. My doc also said pretty much anything topical is fine, but I was still weird about it and only started using the BP again recently (now 25 weeks). I do love this scrub. It's gentle enough to use every other day and I think it's helped. It's not cheap but has lasted me months and I still have a lot left. Overall, my skin has been the worst of my life during pregnancy :-(

@pwnstar: @agold: @BabyBoecksMom: Again, I totally think you ladies are right :) I just want to explore other options for now...since I wasn't already using salicylic acid I was trying not to start. If I had already been using it regularly, I'd probably continue!

@tessafae: Cool! Do you dilute the tea tree oil? And do you just apply it directly to the trouble spots, or use it like a toner?

@Littlebit7: Yeah, I hope it's not a long term thing. I can't remember what happened postpartum in previous pregnancies - it was similar during pregnancy with a little bit of break outs in the first half.

I love using coconut oil and tea tree together before bed. The coconut oil is antibacterial (although a tad bit greasy) and I've always used tea tree to clear up pimples in the past! And I love the scent of it! Then I just wash my face in the morning before I apply any makeup. Has been working great!

Shoot. I've been using a product with salysilic acid for my entire pregnancy!

@BabyBoecksMom: I use this one from neutrogena. Is it the same one you use?

http://www.target.com/p/neutrogena-clear-pore-oil-eliminating-astringent-8-oz/-/A-13337711#prodSlot=medium_1_22&term=neutragena+cleanser

ETA: I just read this online: "Again, doctors are being cautious by recommending that pregnant women avoid the topical use of salicylic acid. Small amounts applied to the skin — such as a salicylic acid-containing toner used once or twice a day — are considered safe, says Johnson." So I will ask my doctor, but probably keep using my toner. I'm fairly addicted to it.

yep I used a sulphur based cream from sephora.
http://www.sephora.com/clarifying-colloidal-sulfur-mask-P375270?skuId=1450899
I know its $$$ but it really worked well. I have continued to use it post preg as well (I hope you're not cursed like me; my acne continued until about 4 or 5 months post partum. Fun.
But i've also used a sulphur based one from murad which I was really happy with also; sephora just happened to be out of stock that day.

@Silva: Oooh, haven't heard of that one! Will check it out!

@BabyBoecksMom: That's good to hear. My cousin, who is a dermatologist, has said this to me about all "Class C" medications - that they're likely not harmful, but we can't be 100% sure because no one is actually willing to do tests on pregnant human beings. I'm trying to avoid for now since it's cosmetic, but may change my tune if my skin takes a turn for the worst.

Sulphur! I do clay masks (I have this beauty bar from Fresh that has lasted me forever) and also got this tub of sulphur acne treatment from amazon that works well.
I've been using dr. Hauschka products throughout my pregnancy and they have worked well- but honestly my skin was worse last time, hasn't been as much of a problem this time so it could just be luck and not the products.

Wasn't sure quite where to put this...but I'm looking for advice on acne treatment in pregnancy. It's nothing too bad, but I'm 13 weeks and breaking out just a little bit around my mouth/jawline, and I don't like it! I don't typically get pimples, and my skin tends towards dry if anything.

I know salicylic acid (sp?) is generally considered a no-no, and I don't do benzoyl peroxide products because of the potential for bleaching towels/clothes. Apparently tea tree oil or witch hazel or some combination are supposed to be good alternatives? If you have used these, can you please share how you used them/if they worked? Thanks!
