I use Cetaphil, too, and my OB said using a little benzoyl peroxide (I have a 2.5% concentration) is just fine. I also use a gentle exfoliator (make sure it doesn't have salicylic acid) a couple of times a week and I moisturize really well morning and night. My skin is definitely not perfect, but it's been manageable during this pregnancy.

Yes, I'd also recommend cetaphil. My husband uses it daily (recommended by his dermatologist) and loves it for keeping his acne in check.

@Cchoi4: I'm almost 15 weeks (2nd).

@mrsjazz: I've never considered the pillow cases! I just changed mine, but good to know!

I've been seriously wondering where this 'pregnancy glow' everyone talks about is! Even with makeup (bare minerals), I'm so embarrassed by how bad my face is.

Sounds like cetaphil is popular - the makeup artist at my friend's wedding last weekend recommended it as well. maybe I'll give it a shot!

I use Cetaphil or Aveeno facewash, no acne meds, just moisturizer and bare minerals as needed!

I always stick with Cetaphil daily facial wash and lotion (without the SPF). It is super gentle but really helps me keep acne at bay.

I've had terrible acne since the first few weeks (now 21.5 weeks) and it has only recently started to get better since I changed my face wash, etc. I've started using Neutrogena Naturals face wash and then putting a topical benzoyl peroxide on the worst spots, as I was told this was safe to use during pregnancy. In the morning I use Aveeno face lotion. I've also been making sure not to wipe my face too hard with the washcloth after washing and to change that out every day or two.

I've struggled with acne, too. And I got my face super clear before pregnancy and now it looks like a pizza!

Because I couldn't use some of my old tricks anymore--I've been using Cetaphil cleanser in the mornings (you can buy the knockoff drugstore brand, it has the same ingredients) and Ponds cold cream at night. I put that on, massage it in, then put a warm/hot washcloth over my face for a bit, and then get all the Ponds off. Since I started doing that, I haven't had any new outbreaks--I wish I started earlier because I have some acne scarring. And I'm in my 3rd trimester (due in about a week) and my acne has been consistent since the 1st tri :(

I've also been changing my pillowcases more frequently, which also helps.

what trimester are you in? I would break out every month (just a little here and there) pre-pregnancy. During my first trimester, I broke out like crazy. It seemed like it would never end! But in actuality, it probably only lasted a month or two. I didn't do anything except maybe wash with salycylic acid face wash every once in a while.

Then in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters AND lasting to now (LO is 11 months old), my skin has been clear. Perhaps it is just your body getting used to the extra hormones.

I've always struggled with acne (I'm almost 24) but its super unpredictable during pregnancy. I read that you shouldn't use anything with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide but used a facewash without knowing...regardless, it dried the heck out of my face!

I'm currently using a bar of Dove soap. It's better--not as dry--but I'm still breaking out.

Help!

(btw...very tight budget..would like to keep cost under $10! :) )
