@Chillybear: Still planning on that trip?

I'm TTC right now and just found out that I might be going to Vietnam at Thanksgiving. *Finger crossed* I might be pregnant. Wondering how my pregnancy will affect my trip or vice versa.

Hong Kong is amazing! It would be a really fun trip, especially in Spring before the Summer heat rolls in.

I would go, and buy travel insurance, just in case :)

If I knew then what I knew now, I would totally just hold off on TTC and take the trip!! Not everyone would agree with me...but we were planning on going to Italy this Spring, and now I will have a 6 month old and I'm just not sure if I'm up to it. Even though I am THRILLED about my little man being here, I know I will be thinking a lot about that trip come Spring...

Sounds like it would be a great time/occasion to go! I don't know where you live, but I will say from the East Coast, flying to Asia is quite the flight. You will likely have to deal with swollen legs & feet, etc.

I was supposed to go to Seoul with my mom during my 2nd trimester, but I ended up not going because it wasn't really a necessary trip, and I had a friend who miscarried when she went to Asia late in her 2nd trimester (this obviously might have been a coincidence but she was convinced it was because of the travel). Ultimately, the decision is up to you and your doctor. If you do go, enjoy, HK is awesome!!

It it's what you want to do, then definitely try to work it out. Just keep in mind that while nobody anticipates problems/ complications in the second trimester, there can always be a slew of problems that arise. I am definitely not trying to discourage you, but just keep in mind that your plans, if you are pregnant at that time, will be subject to change at a moment's notice.

its not that i want to plan my life around other people. But this is a person who means a lot to my husband and is an amazing opportunity to visit a place we'd probably never get to go otherwise. If its a matter of adjusting our TTC date by a month or two then i think its totally worth it to do so.

So my goal would be to be somewhere in the 2nd trimester if we're going to make this trip work. Worse case scenerio we'll be able to attend their philadelphia wedding.

My OB office limits air travel at or beyond 32 weeks and doesn't suggest long car trips by then either.

I would just go along with my TTC timeline and determine if we're in a position to travel when there's more information.

I personally was fine travelling all through my pregnancy, but you never know.

My OB's practice is to limit travel after 34 weeks (for a normal pregnancy, of course). I think every OB is different though!

I don't know about traveling while pregnant, but personally I wouldn't want to plan my life around, "what if I get pregnant." Because then there's always something you'll want to do, something you'll want to go to, and there will never be a right time.

I think it depends how far along you are...if you're in your 3rd tri, esp after 32 weeks, I think most doctors wouldn't want you traveling for long periods of time on a plane (and I don't know how comfortable you would be on a long flight). 1st or 2nd tri is probably fine to do that trip--of course, each pregnancy is different and complications can come up at any point, but hopefully that wouldn't happen!

Wonderful news! my husbands best friend of over 20 years just proposed to his girlfriend while visiting London and they are planning 2 weddings one in Philadelphia and one in Hong Kong, where she and her family live. Nothing is set in stone but they are thinking Spring 2013.

We had talked about TTC in Nov but were thinking we may pull the goalie as early as September. Now the news of these pending nuptials has me thinking we may need to rethink our plan as we both would really like to go to Hong Kong for the wedding. Hypothetically with a normal pregnancy with no complications, when would a doctor restrict air travel half way around the world? Or is traveling to Hong Kong while pregnant an all around bad idea?
