@Anagram: I feel your pain. The same exact thing has been happening to me. Our weight gain is nearly identical! My body is gaining weight like its been in starvation mode or something. I workout for 30-40 min 5 times a week. But it's not comparable to what I was doing for exercise before I got pregnant. Since I've been tracking my meals the last 6 days, I didn't realize how bad my diet has been because if all the sugary laden foods. I had a sweet tooth before but this is bad!

@blackbird: I've been eating a lot of cereals which have more sugar than I thought. Even the chobani Greek yogurt has 20 grams!! That's half your daily allowance...I agree swapping the cereals for eggs and toast with peanut butter or something rather than the jelly . But I'll def try tossing my yogurt inthe freezer !!!!

YAY!!!! so glad to see this thread! I can't tell you how it will all turn out, but I am in the same boat of having gained too much too quickly.

I'm 22 weeks on Thrusday and I'm prrrroooobably right around 22 lbs up. I gained 13 lbs in the first tri when I was horribly nauseous and I still have no idea how it happened! I was literally barely eating, and what I was eating wasn't "bad" at all. I have a scale at home and knew I was gaining, so I started calorie tracking (just for curiosity's sake) and ate 800 cals one day, 1200 the next, and something like 850 the next---out of nausea, not because I was dieting. After that three days, I was up 2 more lbs!!

The only thing I can think of it that before our wedding, I lost about 15 lbs through watching my diet and exercise, and I wasn't exercising at all during the first tri because of my extreme nausea, so I think my body just shut down the calorie burners? Or it was just super eager to regain the weight I'd lost?

I have no idea. So far, my BP has been good and all my bloodwork has been fine, so my doctor has given me no diet advice other than to try to choose healthy foods. That kiiiiind of frustrated me, because in my first tri when I gained the most, I didn't have junk food or sweets at all, because I was too nauseous! I ate a lot of wheat toast, apples, bananas, crackers (the low sodium kind, beacuse my DH has high blood pressure), sometimes cheese if I could manage it. Like...none of these things are particularly bad.

I almost cried at my last appointment, because I couldn't understand how I was still gaining so much and he told ME not to worry so much, that people gain at different times and different rates.

But like you, I don't want Pre-E or GD, so I want to do what I can now. It's frustrating, definitely. The only thing I've been able to do in the past few weeks is start back at the gym. Ive managed to go a few times a week and do the elliptical/treadmill/bike and last weekend, DH and I walked 6 miles on Sunday, just to get out and about. Mind you, after the 6 miles, I eagerly weighed myself and was up a lb from the day before, lol, so sometimes I just want to throw my hands up and give up.

I'm pregnant and my weight is up pretty high right now (37+weeks), but i'm really swollen now, too. I have days where I want lots of sugar and yes, i do have junk now and then (i had 2 snickerdoodles with breakfast today!) but i force myself to balance it out with healthy snacks and meals. Woman cannot live on sugar alone! And for me, if i'm hungry, i need food. Real food. Or i feel like ass later! It's like controlling any other craving/desire and I just have to tell myself it's not healthy to overdo it. I take it away if I have to. I don't buy junk snacks typically (they're so expensive!) and if I bake cookies and bring them to work. they disappear. I give them to my husband to take to his work so I don't gobble them at my desk. I try to eat eggs for breakfast, which is more filling than cereal (and less sugary, since i tend to like grape nuts with honey on it...honey and milk ends up being more sugary than eggs!). If i want something sweet, a greek yogurt usually works for me in the afternoon (i recently started tossing it in the freezer for about 30-40 min. It's like an ice cream!). I didn't have GD, either.

I ate a ton of fresh fruit (way over that limit I assure you) last time around and I didn't have GD. Its not always linked to your sugar intake.

I'm still pregnant but wanted to say I'm there with ya. I'm 22 weeks and up 22 pounds. Definitely been having a hard time with the cravings, and even though I walk daily and lift weights, it keeps on comin :( I hope your appt goes well, I'm worried about GD as well, so I'll be interested to see how it goes. Don't worry yourself too much!!!

Is anyone else having trouble controlling your cravings? I eat healthy but have been obsessed with cooking lately...which means I'm making cookies, brownies and tonight im thinking of homemade coconut ice cream. I'm also downing the Easter pretzel m&m's, which are too much to handle. After reading about the glucose test I've been worried I might be giving myself GD. I've been super thirsty!!! Like really, really thirsty....

So, I have been tracking my daily meals on fitness pal and realizing I'm at least double the daily recommendations of sugar every day. And did you know Milk has like 12 grams of sugar !!! Your only allowed 40 grams a day and I've been over 80! My doctor told me to go on a low sodium diet 6 weeks ago because I've been gaining too much weight. I'm 5'9 and pre preg weight was 166. At my 20 week, I weighed 188. I have an appt this thurs. and I'll be 26 weeks and freaked out of what I might weigh this time. Apparently I need to be on the no sugar, low sodium diet but that would be hideous...

Does anyone relate to struggling like myself and how did you deal and did everything turn out alright?
