@Finfan: We have 2 Diono Radian RXTs and a Chicco Keyfit. We plan on switching the Keyfit to another Radian when my DD is older.

they all fit with room to spare!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: hey car twin! What car seats do you have that you can fit 3? Just curious as we intend to stop with our 2 kids but you never know.

@MrsLilybugg: it ended up working for us because our toddler is forward-facing, and our infant is rear-facing (both in the bucket and in the convertible, currently). So the widest parts of each seat went into the empty space of the other seat... kind of like a yin & yang if that makes any sense. Britaxes are notoriously wide and bulky, so I think it could work for you!

@HabesBabe: my
Toddler's car seat is pretty wide, so I don't think the infant bucket would fit in middle next to hers! But I should test it out !

2007 Toyota Highlander & 2012 Camry-- 5 stars, 4 starts for rollover (which is surprising for the Camry, since it's such a low profile car). I'm not worried at all.

Are you sure you can't have two kids with one in the middle? We have two BIG car seats (Britax Marathons) and LO #1 is behind the driver, with LO #2 in the middle.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: definitely. i love having LO in the middle right now. I'll be sad when that has to change :crying:

Thank you everyone! And that is a great point to make, regarding the car seats making it safer!

Yes, deep breaths are in order.

Also, I apologize for planting this seed in anyone's mind that hadn't worried about it before!

Our Ford Explorer is 5 stars and our VW Passat is 4 stars.

Honestly though, I wouldn't stress about it too much (especially if you aren't in a position to buy a new car).

I never thought of this. I was really concerned about how safe my car seat is! We bought me a new car, because I had a Honda Accord coupe, and it would be too difficult bending over to get baby out of the tight backseat with my bad back. I just looked it up and it has 4 & 5 star ratings.

My new company car (the one baby will drive in) isn't yet rated, but last year's Malibu received 4 & 5 star crash ratings. We are also planning to install the car seat in the middle, which I read makes it safer during a side impact collision.

I second @Rainbow Sprinkles: deep breath!

Honestly I have never considered this, and definitely would not buy a different vehicle because of the concern, I would only note it for the future purchases if it was a deal breaker for my decisions.

ETA: to answer your actual question both of our vehicles are 5 star, but I had to go look it up out curiosity.

My car has a four star rating on the passenger side in the rear in a side crash. I was hit on the passenger side last year with LO in the car in his car seat. In fact, the other car hit the door right next to LO. He was rear facing and barely moved. He was perfectly fine. I honestly think the fact that your LOs will be in car seats makes them much safer than that safety rating would suggest and especially so if they are rear facing.

@MrsLilybugg: I always think about this! I was in a fairly serious accident myself about 8 years ago and luckily had a newer car. I think I would have died if I was in my old honda accord that I had driven for too long. Because of the accident, I'm really picky about car safety. But I just looked up my car and it only rated "marginal" for " IIHS’s small overlap front test". Yikes. Ugh. Now I'm going to have to consider this since my car lease is up in August before my baby is due.

I have never even thought about the safety rating of my car.

I drive a 2008 Honda CR-V and have 3 car seats in the back.

If I were you, I would take a deep breath, and not worry about it. :) Don't buy a new car if you don't need one.

I never considered the safety rating of my car before. Overall, it gets 3 stars (2 stars for passengers) but I wouldn't go out and buy a new one because of that, especially if money is tight.

I’m having anxiety about everything this pregnancy :crying: And I’m having a very hard time making my mind up about anything! Every single decision is overwhelming.

My latest is the safety of my car: a Toyota Yaris. Right now LO sits RF in middle seat in the back, but once I have my second one, they will both probably have to be on each passenger side, since LO1 has such a big convertible seat. I’m not concerned about the “tight fit” , just the safety. Here’s a link from safercar.gov for my car ratings, and am attaching a screenshot in case that doesn’t work.
http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Shoppers/5-Star+Safety+Ratings/1990-2010+Vehicles/Vehicle-Detail?vehicleId=2510

What are the safety ratings for your car? http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues I guess specifically the back passengers (where your LOs are)

Do you think it’s worth getting a used mini van based on my car's safety ratings? (3 stars for passengers) Keeping in mind, money is SUPER tight because I’ve significantly reduced my hours to stay home with LO1, we’re about to have a second baby, and we’ll have to think about paying for preschool for LO1.

Also, have been in two accidents already: both times rear-ended! One was pretty major. Everyone was OK. No LO in back but there was a booster seat for my nephew and only the back trunk was scrunched up. I guess I"m adding this to just say that it's been "tested" for accidents rear-ended. My concern is passenger side though.
