Good luck! My son was iugr, too -- went through the monitoring and early induction and everything. The doctors said the baby would be fine, and he was. He spent six days in special care before coming home, but most of that was because he was a poky eater at first. They also said he'd be small but would catch up to other babies, and at nearly six months, he's definitely doing just that.

Hopefully you're already snuggling your baby, or will be soon!

Good luck! Everything will be fine. This happened to one of my good friends. Her baby wasn't growing at the end of her pregnancy, so they decided to induce early. She had a crappy placenta. Baby was born just fine... and actually decided to come the day before the scheduled induction on her own. All this means is that your body is no longer the best place for your baby to keep cooking. The good news is, you can meet your baby ASAP, and s/he will probably be much better off out here in the real world.

Okay, my doctor just called. She asked me to come into the hospital right away to be induced. Aghh! Wasn't ready for this yet.....I wish I had hit my nesting phase so the house was at least clean first!

I measured small pretty much the entire pregnancy but around 35 weeks was measuring more than 3 weeks behind. I had a growth scan and biophysical which showed the baby meauring only around 4 lbs but looking healthy. I had twice weekly bpp's from then on and was induced at 39 weeks. At my last bpp the baby measured just over 5 lbs. During the induction (and cervical ripening prior to it), I was kept on the monitors most of the time. The baby had no troubles and it was an uncomplicated vaginal birth. He was small but perfectly healthy and we were able to have immediate skin to skin contact. Because of his size he needed blood sugar tested for the first 24 hours and he had an extra pediatricians appt the first week to make sure he was growing. He's now 7 weeks and growing big! There are so many scary iugr stories but try not to worry because the baby is probably perfect just small.

@Maymumma - thanks, you are probably right- I've heard a lot of people say the scans are pretty inaccurate. I'm fairly petite myself so it's possible that the baby is just genetically smaller than other babies too!

Sorry to hear you have this weighing over you!

I was the same with my now 5month DD. She was measuring 2 weeks behind from about 27 weeks - in the 5 centile. We had scans every two weeks and she tracked along the 5th centile. They spoke about IUGR etc and inducing but I wanted to hold on for when she was ready. She was born four days late at 7 pounds 2 so absolutely normal. I think in hindsight it was much ado over nothing and I spent my last trimester worrying about her weight and waiting for each scan.

Just remember there needs to be babies in the 5 centile - just as there needs to be babies in the 95 centile - its all the range of 'normal'! Plus I question the accuracy of scans too....

So I have been measuring 2-3 weeks behind on my fundal height, have only gained 20 lbs and I've had a grade 3 placenta since 32 weeks. My doctor has been giving me weekly Biophysical Profile ultrasounds and little Lemon has been getting an 8 out of 8 on each one.

My last growth scan was at 34 weeks and the baby was measuring at about 4 lbs then, which my doctor said was in the 10th percentile.

She ordered another growth scan for me today (38 weeks) and the baby was estimated at 5.3 lbs (plus or minus .6 lbs). Of course, once I got home I googled growth charts and it looks like little Lemon has dropped considerably lower than 10%!

Here's the chart I was looking at: http://www.biomedcentral.com/content/figures/1471-2431-3-13-2-l.jpg

My doctor is on call today at the hospital and had someone in labor so they told me she'd review my ultrasounds later and call me with the results.

I'm really worried now- anyone else have growth scans showing the baby to be under the 10%? What steps did your doctor take with you?
