i use the Body Shop Tea Tree toner and it keeps me pretty clear. I wash with Basis Bar and moisturize with Eucerin during day and Cetaphil at night. My OB gave me the OK to spot treat with Benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) but I don't use it often

I second the Clarisonic. I still break out but not as bad and they last half as long. And I just started using the mild Clinique toner at night and that seems to help too.

I'm using my Clarisonic with a gentle face wash (no SA or BP, etc). The clarisonic seems to be helping. I had slacked off of using it prepregnancy, but within a week of my BFP, I looked like a 14 year old. I started using my Clarisonic again, and my skin is doing much better. I still have some breakouts, but there are less and they last for a shorter time.

I've used belli's pregnancy safe spot treatment (worked okay in first and beginning of second tri), used benzyol peroxide sparingly during second tri, and recently got a prescription for clindamycin from my dermatologist. To be honest though I can't really say that anything has helped my skin clear up. It seems to come and go--some weeks are good, some weeks are bad. And while I'm not getting huge zits anymore, I'm getting little whiteheads everywhere. It's awful!! I'm just holding on to the fact that my skin was good pre-pregnancy and will hopefully return to that state.

@MamaMoose: oh, this made me sad! I feel your pain. :(

I have had horrendous nightmare skin since I was 13 and the only thing that ever helped is awesome amounts of prescription retinoids -- you know, the stuff I can't use now.

I finally stumbled on Clinique's Exfoliating Scrub, I bought it at Sephora for about $20 and it has been amazing. It does have salicylic acid in it but it's not enough for them to even display a percentage on the bottle. I'll ask my doctor about it next time I see them but I'm so stubborn because this is the ONLY thing that has worked for me in pregnancy. I haven't had any new breakouts and it's been helping clear up and fade the existing ones, and keep my insane oil production down too. I actually use it diluted both morning and night because it's actually pretty gentle (and I have super sensitive skin).

I'm really cautious about everything else -- I stopped using my tinted moisturizer because it has ethylhexyl salicylate in it, and I stopped using my lip balm because it has oxbenzone -- but I refuse to give up the scrub since I just rinse it off anyway (a little different from makeup that sits on my skin all day or lip balm on my lips that I ingest).

Ok, I refuse unless my doctor tells me to lol.

I went to the dermatologist and she gave me a face wash with benzoyl peroxide in it. She said that the amount you're using is so small that the risk is tiny. It has definitely helped. My skin isn't back to pre-preg but it is a lot better for sure.

@MamaMoose: I also use my Zeno a lot, too. It is just a 2.5 minute heat application (no chemicals at all), and it works wonders on the blemishes that are going to appear (you can feel them under the skin) but haven't yet.

@SorryCharlie: Exactly. The process of getting through your skin/body, into your bloodstream, and crossing the placenta was so small as to not be a concern.

I use my tears. : (

I just don't feel comfortable using even OTC stuff that has acne medication in it. It just use a regular facial cleanser/exfoliant and then I use make up. Make up works well enough that to me it just wasn't worth the worry or the risk of using acne medication.

@PhotoJane: My OB told me that unless I planned to ingest it, that over-the-counter stuff was fine. I have used both BP and SA during this pregnancy without any issue (the percentages were really small, like 2%).

If you are concerned, definitely check with your practitioner.

@MsLipGloss: @sorrycharlie: I used face wash and cream with benzoyl peroxide and occasionally an astringent with salicylic acid. I read that they were both off limits during pregnancy. Is this not true?

I used (and still use) all the normal stuff that I used pre pg. The only things that were off the table, so to speak, were prescription strength topicals like Retin A. Other than that, my OB said all of the normal over-the-counter stuff was fine. I use/have used Philosophy's On A Clear Day for spot treatment, my Zeno ( it's just heat, no chemicals), and my regular cleanser and moisturizer (Cetaphil and Cerave).

I used photoshop. LOL

I know how you feel! I went through that last year and I was disgusted looking at myself in the mirror. I had prescribed acne meds too, they were supposed to be safe (in a specific category but not enough tests/studies to prove it is not safe or something) but I didn't use them out of precaution. There were a few times I couldn't help it though.

I have always had problem skin, but I have been able to keep it under some kind of control with washes and creams. Since getting knocked up my hormones are going crazy and my face is breaking out like a teenage boy, but I can't use any of my creams or washes! I feel gross. Anyone have any pregnancy-safe recommendations to deal with these break outs?
